Default Most Overlooked Disaster of our Team..............

Hey all.... very new here, but have been reading this site for quite sometime. One of the best sources for Skins news available.

I have noticed the firing squad has been aiming directly at Jim Haslett's head for that debacle on Monday night. In my opinion our Defense is what it is based on our miserable play by our Defensive line.

In my opinion we have the worst, talentless defensive front in football. I understand that in the 3-4 quite a bit of space eating and taking on blockers has a ton to do with the system. But, this does not mean the defensive line should be completely unproductive. Below is our rotation and their production this year. I wanted to leave AH out of the picture to focus on the rest since they have not been covered all season. Al's stats not that impressive anyway.

Vonnie Holiday- 4 tackles 1/2 sack
Adam Carriker- 9 tackles 1/2 sack
    Ma'ake Kemo- 13 tackles 0 sacks
Kedric Golston- 12 tackles 0 sacks
Phillip Daniels- 8 tackles 1 sack

Out of 628 plays this crew has racked up 46 tackles and 2 total sacks. That is around 7% of the total tackles between 5 players who play a large part of the defensive snaps. BJ Raji alone (same 3-4) has 20 tackles and 2.5 sacks on far fewer defensive plays.

Not one of these players (maybe Carriker) should be playing professional football. How do we move forward with this type of talent? It takes years to replace an entire Defensive line. I look at these names and am very concerned for our defense. For everyone who wants to dump Haynesworth, you may want to re-consider. Name one of these players who should be here next year and why??????

it really starts with the NT position. NT is the most important part of the 3-4

"And you build it from the inside out," Collier said. "The nose tackle and the inside linebackers, those are three guys that are very important. But when you go through it, the nose tackle is probably the single-most important guy.

"He has to hold it all together and make it so the guards can't get out on the inside linebackers. Let me put it this way - the nose tackle can make the inside linebackers look pretty good, and if your inside linebackers look pretty good, you're going to play pretty good defense."

Alot of the problem Lies with Haslett and Shanahanfor switching to the 3-4. You have to remember this was a top 10 defense for the last 5 years in a 4-3. You go from being top 10 to dead last you deserve to get blasted.

That's why I've been advocating that we get some dline in this years draft... A nt, de and or olb. Anyone else who has any questions on how important a dline is please
Oh please watch the giants play the eagles. Turnovers start from putting pressure on the qb along with a good defense. I understand that if a good cb drops to us we should take him, but will all seriousness
You can cover a guy for only so long.... When a de, nt, olb can create havic n force things instead.

Also keep in mind we haven't had a good dline since we've had charless mann and company..

I hope whoever is deciding the team's draft picks is looking at some of these guys:

Jerrell Powe looks like he fits the part of a NT...Any Mississippi fans out there?

I have a feeling this thread is going to continuously get bumped over the next couple of weeks, because we played mostly passing teams, but next on the schedule is CJ, AP, and Giants running game. It is going to be a depressing next couple of weeks for this rush defense.

I think Shanahan has a plan, so even though it's EXTREMELY frustrating and sickening to watch this defense I believe it'll work out in the end. Shanahan has the pressure of coaching in DC, but also the advantage of having an owner that will spend whenever he asks for it.

This is the most annoying phrase on the board.

A top 10 defense that did nothing when it matter.

Agreed, that is like saying Clinton Portis will be the leading rusher in Redskins History, but where has that ever gotten us? Nothing when it mattered, whole other topic sorry.

Yep hopefully these guys are just temporary band aid's until we can bring in long term effective solutions. I don't see any of these players being here in the next 2/3 years. Ughhh, so many holes where to start!

I agree. I think the team will be fine (eventually) with the 34. Unfortunately, this team just has a lot of work to do, and at this point I don't know if they should focus on O-Line, D-Line, or a little bit of both. Nonetheless, once there is a solid NT, and Linebacker corp in place, I think the 34 will be great.

Still, just put all of this in perspective...The team's needs are many, not only do the D and O Lines need major work, the Linebackers need upgrading and depth, there is a big need for a Free Safety, a young QB still needs to come in to get groomed, WR's are a must, and pending if James Davis works out, they may need a RB too.

yet the 4-3 would have been perfect against the eagles containing vick.

On the OL. Create a solid OL and go from there.

Yea, I guess we should have changed the D to a 4-3 just to play Vick.

If you were going to spend, wasn't this the year to do it in an uncapped year?
