    Default OT--iPhone Help

My iphone 3g has been an absolute trooper with my 2 small children doing all in their power to destroy it. After over 2 years I think it's finally been dealt a mortal blow. It will no longer charge and I can't hear squat over the phone (though the volume works fine in other areas). I don't want to buy a 4g just yet b/c I hear the 5g is around the corner and that the 4g isn't that great. I was hoping to get a 3g on the cheap but I don't see how to buy any new iphone at all without a 2 year contract. Does anyone know of a way around this?

Craigslist, ebay, etc. You could also see if ATT can sell you a refurb phone on no contract, I'm not sure if they do this or not but it's worth asking.

Aside from craigslist or eBay (Which you need to be careful with), you could always get an iPhone 3GS with a new 2 yr contract ($50) then sell it if/when an iPhone 5 comes out in the summer. The downside is that you would have to buy a newer iPhone at full price but the upside is that you could probably sell the 3GS for a profit. Honestly though, I love my iPhone 4 and the rumored additions to the next iPhone aren't really anything to write home about.

Another option could be to buy a normal ol phone with no contract and then if/when a new iPhone comes out, buy that with your upgrade.

Thanks for the thoughts. I have now been hearing good things about iphone 4, I guess the problems with the initial launched were fixed.
