Default Rick Santorum's Man on Doghouse............News, History, Love & War on College Snobs (those who want to be educated)

Taking this old thread and making it a generic Santorum one now that he's the hot candidate.

SOMERSET, Pa. — Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, once the No. 3 Republican in the Senate, said Monday he's seeking the GOP nomination for president to protect American freedoms under threat from President Barack Obama.
A blunt-talking favorite among party social conservatives, Santorum said Obama has worked to undermine Americans' freedoms and pushed through a national health care plan that reduces individual choices. He accused Obama of spending billions of dollars that add to future generations' debts and said the president doubts the nation's potential. "I'm ready to lead. I'm ready to do what has to be done for the next generation, with the courage to fight for freedom, with the courage to fight for America," Santorum said, speaking the sun-splashed steps of a county courthouse in western Pennsylvania. "That's why I'm announcing today that I'm running for president of the United States of America."
Santorum, who enjoys strong support from the anti-abortion rights bloc in the Republican Party, nodded to the social conservatives who have huge sway in early nominating states of Iowa and South Carolina. He also pitched himself to tea party-style activists who have yet to jell around a single candidate.

My favorite line was "They believe in themselves, the smart people, the planners, the folks in Washington who can make decisions better than you can."

I know he was being sarcastic about "Smart People" but on the flip side, why does it seem that being smart is a bad thing for some folks?

I don't quite get how someone thinks they can be president when no one in America either likes or respects you.

not true. A woman fainted at the announcement today. Because she was so excited for it.

Just the latest in an impressively long line of mediocre at best, uninspiring candidates with zero chance to win

Let's just say he couldn't hold down a seat in a state that is pretty conservative in most areas (minus Philly and Pittsburgh). I liken him to Al Gore, for some reason has a name at the national level, but not well liked back home.

That is how they appeal to their base. Anti-intellectualism is getting pretty rampant among many on the far right, it seems. They are also constantly getting the idea that all gov't is eeebil and run by horrible "elitists" force fed to them via talk radio and other mediums. So you get disenfranchisement and resentment. All the politicians have to do is just keep stoking that fire and they have a riled up group of people.

The amusing thing is when they then turn around and talk so glowingly about the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the Founding Fathers. News flash: the Founding Fathers WERE the elite. They were highly educated intellectual heavyweights; the kind of people that the likes of Santorum, Palin, etc (take your choice) want their base to despise.

    *facepalm*

So, you bought Carrot Top when she was a little child ?

What a bargain $10 was, considering how great she turned out to be, when she grew up.

The founders would not recognize what some on the left consider intellectualism today......they have given liberals a bad name.
It is not higher learning that is being disparaged, but rather the perversions of it,and the abandonment of common sense.
