going to the B10 is the right decision for money reasons. Money talks and playing chumps like Nc state, and boston college wont do that .

Those "chumps" have had as much or more success in the conference and in bowls as Maryland has, and now all of a sudden Maryland is too good to play them? Your right though Maryland will benefit money wise and potentially even recruiting wise in a new conference.

I dont care about the football, MD got really good programs in every other sport but football and now being forced to move.

Academically, the ACC is at least as strong as Big 10 too

Altho the Big 10 probably get crazy grant money just by their name. sigh, this sucks

not md is too good to play them, but they do not possess the star power of the schools in the b10

I remember when all the conference movement was going on, I was hoping MD would move to the Big 10. I would have been disappointed, because it meant not seeing MD play here in NC, nor would I get to see them as much on TV. But for the school, I thought it made sense to jump off the train headed to nowhere. I saw the ACC as the conference being left out of the 4 super conferences moving forward in football. Even when Pitt and Syracuse joined, I still saw the ACC as being on the outside. But when Notre Dame joined (albeit not in football yet), I thought that the ACC would be able to survive. So seeing MD in talks to leave now is definitely strange.

    Someone hacked Maryland's twitter.

"Men's Basketball Championship will be in a real city. So long, Greensboro."

University of Maryland poised to join the Big Ten

The University of Maryland was poised Sunday to end its 59-year affiliation with the Atlantic Coast Conference and jump to the Big Ten Conference, a move that would eliminate a number of the school’s longstanding college sports rivalries but, in the view of those behind the proposal, shore up the finances of an athletic department that has fallen on rocky budgetary times.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Maryland will meet early Monday morning in a private session in Baltimore to decide whether Maryland should join the 12-member Big Ten, which is looking to expand its geographic and financial footprint.

The proposal needs a simple majority of the board’s 16 members to pass. University of Maryland President Wallace D. Loh, who spearheaded the move, briefed the board on the proposal via telephone late Sunday afternoon.

Oh I do not like them going to the Big10. I understand the reasons why, but I'm just not a fan of us playing in the north all the time. Like others said, I know this is a football move, but I'll miss the ACC basketball games against Duke, UNC, NCState, Wake, etc. It won't be the same.

It's a good move for UMD.

Better money, better academics (B1G is the #1 rated academic conference and the CIC will help UMD quite a bit).

I hate conference re-alignment. UMD and VT aren't rivals but all this moving around is obnoxious and confusing and destroying rivalries.

That has nothing to do with what's happening.

Any ACC school should take the B1G up on this offer. More money, better academics, a dedicated TV network etc.

Even if Notre Dame football joins the ACC this is a good move for UMD.

I only think this is a bad move for 2 sports. LAX and Soccer. Other than that, it will benefit UMD. Maybe they'll actually make it to TV with the change. I've seen more Towson Football on ESPN the past two years than UMD.

Kneejerk reaction was that I hated this move. But, I have to say I'm coming around to it a little bit.

One of the driving reasons is that there is going to continue to be realignment. How awful would it be to to be in an ACC that just lost Miami, FSU, Duke and UNC to the SEC? Its certainly possible that happens in a few years. Maybe less.

I still don't like the idea. I get it if a handful of teams are actually leaving the ACC. But, I'd rather see Maryland join a newly created conference that is a bit more regional. I know the ACC kind of us regional if Boston to Florida can be. I also know Florida isn't close, so complaining about Nebraska or Iowa seems petty....but still.
