The ACC's mistake was not going after West Virginia. What they should have done is, invited WVA, Pitt and Syracuse. Then invited Notre Dame, let them keep ALL their NBC money and package and give them a partial share of ACC money to go towards their other sports. Meaning, if everyone in the ACC gets 25 million a year for TV from football, ND only gets like a fourth of a share. Having ND and WVA would have made the ACC a legit football conference, but they screwed themselves.

    UNC, GaT to the SEC?

That would leave Duke, Wake, NC State, Pitt, Syr and BC out of the mix.

The Big 12 has 6 spots. So it ends up being 10 slots for 13 schools. Wake Forest and Boston College would be most likely to be left out I bet.

If I'm wrong, I'll eat crow, but how bout a sig bet. I'll display a sig of your chosing/make (as long as it doesnt violate board rules) for a month if Maryland even plays in the ACC tournament championship game. Hell, they don't have to win it, just make it. I'm that confident.
I was being sarcastic fella. "It's that easy." Not serious.

I do think we are going to be good though. We'll crack the top 25 at some point and win our fair share of games. I don't foresee and trip to the ACC championship game but it isn't out of the realm of possibility. The additions of Mitchell, Cleare, Layman, Allen, and Wells give us a solid 10 man rotation.

Y'all should make the NCAA tourny this year. The way UNC has played the first three games, they are looking a little over-rated, not like a top 15 team.

One thing that seems to be getting missed here is that this has nothing to do with basketball. All these moves are solely about football and tv contracts. College football is king.

I am a much bigger college basketball fan than a college football fan, myself, but not a single school has made a move because they thought it was a good basketball decision.

You're right. I mis-counted. With the name being the "Big 12" I was thinkng there were 12 teams already. Good catch.

The ACC makes decisions based on basketball.

    Because Swofford is an idiot.

When leagues start doing that, they end up folding. See BigEast.

There's no such thing as a "basketball first power conference." Football, sadly, rules college athletics.

I don't think the ACC really did that though with Cuse and Pitt. At the very least, they could justify Cuse and Pitt as adequate football powers. Pittsburgh is sort of a sleeping giant of college football. Of course, its been sleeping forever. But, its a great area for football.

Big East is the team that started trying to gobble up basketball teams, and it doesn't work. You cannot be competitive.

Well, I supposed its too much to ask for the Big 10 to pick a conference name that makes sense?

You make a decent point with Pitt, but Syracuse isn't there. Pitt has fantastic recruiting opportunities that the Orange do not.

Plus, Boeheim can't coach forever. I'm not happy about it.

Those divisional names "leaders" and "legends" are the worst pieces of news i've gotten today. Someone needs to get on that.

looks like we are in a pretty strong basketball division with wisconsin, indiana, purdue and ohio state though.

Give Loh a lot of credit. He is the first one I can remember in any of these announcements to say flat out, we need the money.

After listening to Van Pelt give his opinion, I feel less angry about it. Funny how an ESPN guy who happens to be a Terp seems like the most trustworthy guy on all things Maryland.

Anywho.....like I said earlier....update the conference name....and those division names? YUCK. Give me East/West or something. Doesn't need to be fancy.

So, Illinois gets moved to the Legends Division. Speaking of dumb names. I never liked the Coastal or Atlantic crap either.
