Maryland Basketball (some football) recruiting news (Shaq, Layman Commits!)

I hate how the game started with Len cleanly blocking a shot by Jefferson and getting a foul called on him. It was such an obvious block. I knew it would be a long day after that.

Duke clearly the better team though. Maryland isn't ready to compete like that. Doesn't mean they aren't capable, just that it would take a tremendous effort all around in order to pull it off.

Schedule gets a little easier now. Must bounce back Wednesday night at Florida State. Certainly not a gimme, to say the least. Avenge the earlier loss where we let them come back.

they are 3-4 in the acc but this team can easily win 10 games in the ACC. with a 18 game ACC schedule, 10-8 and maybe 1 or 2 victories in the acc tournament may do it.

Great win over Wake Forest. I read that the team decided to concentrate less on what the opponent was doing and concentrate on their own strengths. Meaning, take it to the opponent and make them adjust. Still too many turnovers though. They need to cut them way back.

Terps have a lot of work to do to get in the dance. Need to essentially win the rest of their games. They have no road wins in the ACC. The home game against Duke will be huge. 8-1 with a loss against Duke or 7-2 with a win against Duke and a couple ACC tournament wins should get them in. Lack of quality wins hurts. The NC State win is looking less impressive now that NC State is dissolving.

I don't see that happening. I think an NIT bid is more realistic. I like the direction the program is going in but they are at least a season away from being in the NCAA tourney.

This is the sad reality, while I haven't lost complete hope and they are heading in the right direction, this is a NIT team with a very bright future.

We have two games against Virginia, one against Duke, and one against North Carolina. Virginia Tech, Clemson, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, and Boston College. Those first four will be really hard, and Maryland has shown me nothing to say those other five are gimmes. I'd be really amazed if they made the tournament.

honestly i dont think so. just dont get any quality losses lol! i am counting the duke-UNC as losses. besides the rest of those games we should split with Virginia and the other teams are not very good

Friendship Collegiate LB Yannick Ngakoue to choose between Florida State, Maryland, South Carolina



When Yannick Ngakoue transferred from Carroll to Friendship Collegiate last winter, he arrived on his new campus with “two or three” scholarship offers, according to Friendship coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim. A year later, and after considering what Abdul-Rahim estimates to be “30 to 40” offers considered this fall, Ngakoue will choose from Maryland, South Carolina and Florida State on National Signing Day on Wednesday.

One of those programs will be acquiring an electric player, one who transformed himself into a high-level recruit between his junior and senior season, Abdul-Rahim said. He was able to add weight without losing speed, and move in and out of the defensive end and linebacker positions without losing effectiveness.

They do show flashes, but you don't win 16 games at this point be being below average. I'd say they are an average team. I don't think anyone is saying we'll make some noise in the tournament, but that just getting there might be satisfying enough. We still have 9 conference games left and the ACC Tourney, so who knows. Maybe with their newfound outlook against Wake (See my post #1188) they'll go on a little run.
