Maryland Basketball (some football) recruiting news (Shaq, Layman Commits!)

Everyone wants the students to act like they have been there before. But, have these student been there before? The last time the Terps beat a ranked team was in 2010. Let them have their fun. When I went to Maryland we rushed the floor when our #3 Terps beat #1 Carolina. Shouldn't we have expected to win? This team and coaching staff need to energize the fan base. They need to get out of Gary's immense shadow. Good for them and good for the students.

I forgot all about the game. I was so tired last night. I watched a couple of programs on the DVR and by the time I remembered, it was 10:07. Checked the score and was shocked to see we won. Damn, I missed a thriller.

I agree. It was lame. I watched the game and even though they won, I came away feeling like it was due more to N.C. state playing bad then anything MD did.

I was embarrassed as a grad also. Rushing the court should be saved for when you either beat #1, win your conference regular season, with your conference tourney, or win it all. That's it.

Yeah, a lot of these kids haven't been there for the last time they beat a ranked team. But they were there last time they beat NCST. Something like 10 of the all 11. Come on....lets go burn some couches.

Sure, no problem if they want MD to come off looking like a D 1-AA school and be a punchline on ESPN.

As long as they still play basketball in Duke and UNC, ESPN will always treat Maryland as a joke. I wouldn't invest too much time or energy worrying about the opinions of the talking suits of ESPN

Not really, if we play well and act like we belong we will get the respect. For MD fans to rush the floor after beating NC State is just sad.

You have to understand that this current crop of Maryland students has never experienced winning basketball. The Natl Title was 11 years ago, when most of the students were in elementary school. All they've known is mediocre basketball at Maryland, so I can understand storming the court because they beat a ranked team.

I think in this scenario it's ok to rush the court because it was a season saving win. If we lose we are most likely out of the dance and on a downward spiral. The offense still sucks, but with Faust at point and a win against a ranked team there should be reason for hope.

I cringed when they rushed the court. But those kids are probably freshman and sophomores who payed zero attention to UMD hoops till they got to CP. There hasn't been a big win since 2010. They don't know better. I would like for them to know better, but these aren't lifelong fans we're talking about here.

Can someone please explain to me what harm there is in students swarming the floor after winning a game with virtually no time left? Against a team that just beat Duke? Against a ranked team when you are unranked?

No its not. Rushing the court is pretty dumb no matter who you beat. But, beating the 14th ranked team at home indicates that you have pretty low expectations. I could see Iona rushing the court if they beat NC State. Beating NC State used to be something Maryland expected. How did it go to biggest win ever?
