My apologies for beating a dead horse, but it made me so proud to watch the game on TV and see the sea of burgundy and gold in the stands at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday. Kudos to all in attendance, many of whom traveled far at great personal expense!
After years of getting so much flak for the number of Cowboys, Eagles, and Steelers jerseys present for home games at FedEx, it really warmed my heart to see Skins fans do the same to another team. Despite all the self flagellation here, we undoubtedly THE BEST fanbase in the entire NFL! Do you think Eagles, Steelers, Cowboys, or Giants fans would travel in the numbers they do if their franchises had sucked for the past 20 years? No f-ing way! The resiliency of Skins fans is truly astounding. We could suck for another 20 years and it wouldn't matter. The only franchise in pro sports that I can compare Skins fans to is the Red Sox fans pre-2004. The burgundy and gold flows through the blood of everyone in the DMV. It unites us and binds us, whether black or white, Democrat or Republican, DC native or transplant.
If last Sunday is any indication, you can imagine what would happen if the Skins go on a Patriots like run of Super Bowls in the next 10 years? Holy crap, it would be tough for home team fans to get tickets whenever the Skins came to town.
If we survived the last 20 years of futility and Snyder's meddling, we can survive anything. The only way to go is up, and I can't wait for the day when every team complains about the influx of Skins fans in their Stadiums.
