He had the majority, true, but he didn't really want to lose it, because he didn't want to appear partisan. Despite the fact that no matter what he did, Republicans would call him partisan. I do think in those first two years, he tried far too much to be liked and he didn't press his advantage.

I think eventually he realized that trying to cowtow to people who weren't going to try and meet him halfway was not going to work and in the last two years he basically said "eff it" to trying to work with Republicans, but by then it was too late.

I'd expect that he would change that stance in his second term.
Agreed. If Obama gets a second term, we're going to see a much more aggressive side of him. If the Dems can reclaim the House, it will be doomsday for the GOP. He'll be able to do whatever he wants.

Just finished watching the RNC. Not here to get political, but Clint Eastwood (82 yrs old) should not have been out there. Who decided that?

I can't think of one area where he has said "eff it" in the last 2 years.

Has anything, besides the killing of Bin Laden, of significance been proposed in the last 2 years?

Oh it's priced like a luxury vehicle, with a Honda Civic chassis. Yeah it's overprices like all of the hybrids. Reduce oil consumption and reduce the amount of money in your wallet.

Again, where was the leadership on this? 1 proposal and a website? If the President focused on high speed rail like he did Obamacare, we'd have something.

6 years 53 billion is less then 9 billion a year. The Tysons rail is costing 2 billion dollars. 9 billion a year barely makes a dent on the needs of high speed rail.

Completely underwhelming token proposal with no leadership. A lack of boldness which has been the prime issue of this Presidencey.

It is a tired excuse that "they are obstructing" when "they" control one half of 1/3 of the government by a few seats.

Clinton got stuff done with Newt. Reagan with Tip O'Niell. But this President has spent more time deflecting and blaming then leading
It's at least a 25 year plan focusing on areas that need it most first. And again, Republicans are refusing to take the money in certain areas to help modernize their infrastructure. You can lead a horse to water...

The purpose of this convention was pretty clear. Highlight how bad things are. Tell people R's are nice. Make the R's acceptable.

I disagree. I honestly don't think he is that guy.

And I have no idea what guy Romney is. He isn't getting my vote either and nothing this week changed my opinion on him. He is an empty suit leading the old angry white guy party

Sure, so lead. The President has the ultimate bully pulpit.

Clinton used it to his advantage in 1995 during 2 shutdowns. Rope a doped Gingrich and the R Congress (which was totally controlled by R's, both House and Senate)

President Obama hasn't come close to leading. Its not his style.

I have to imagine Obama's got more up his sleeve than we've seen in his first term. There's gotta be more he wants to do and if he regains Dem majorities in both houses, I don't see anything holding him back besides a few Blue Dogs in the House of Representatives.

Now Romney strikes me as a guy that really doesn't have a concrete plan for the nation. He just strikes me as a guy that just wants to be President. After that? It's all gravy. I wouldn't be surprised if he let Ryan take the reigns over the administration's policy.

    .
Why wait though? Nothing is guranteed. What could he possibly have? Legalize pot. I'll back him on that 100 percent. I just don't know why he would have kept things to himself with the super majorities he had in 2009 and 2010

Ok, so I wasn't the only one who thought Rachel Maddow's reaction to Eastwood was funny...

I agree with this 100%. All anyone has to do is look at how much he has changed position on every single issue. He plays to whomever he is talking to at the moment.
