(Prediction: JMS will rush in and attempt to defend these policies by saying that Bush supported them/Mitt supports them, even though I never mentioned Obama and wasn't commenting on one president/party or another.)
these so-called “signature strikes” that “allow the agency to hit targets based solely on intelligence indicating patterns of suspicious behavior” are already robustly used in Pakistan
"It in effect counts all military-age males in a strike zone as combatants, according to several administration officials, unless there is explicit intelligence posthumously proving them innocent," is how the Times report it. "Counterterrorism officials insist this approach is one of simple logic: people in an area of known terrorist activity, or found with a top Qaeda operative, are probably up to no good."
Well, at least this doesn't seem so morally wrong that it reminds me of lines uttered by the bad guys in countless action movies.

I'm into a signature strike as long as we accessorize properly with a designer withdrawl.
"Captain, it's a viewpoint--not one of ours! We're under attack!"

"I see it, ensign! Engage amygdala! Transfer all power from frontal lobes!

Suspend critical thinking field! Go to course heading of reflexive response 101 at full bias!
    Now!'Enter' at will!"

I'm a big supporter of retroactive birth control.

I am still puzzled as to why the OBama thread hasn't matched this one. AFter all, OBama is the one who will win. Also, looks like viewership was way down for this convention; will be interesting to see if Dems have same lack of viewership.

There's less interesting stuff to talk about with Obama. So much of the interesting stuff with Obama is whatever thing the Republicans said about Obama that particular day.

Conventional wisdom was that this election would be a referendum on Obama. Then with the addition of Ryan people have shifted to saying it is a choice between ideologies. I wonder if to some extent it has become a referendum on Romney. The Obama stuff - Rezko, Ayers, Wright, Kenya - has been beaten to death. Romney is more of an unknown quantity, and I think the Bain attacks combined with missteps by Romney have turned a lot of the focus on him.

I had heard that the Rs would start regurgitating the Rev. Wright stuff again...that was, until they had to play defense.

It's really weird to me that they're still fixating on Rev Wright or that Obama hadn't run a business now. Four years ago, when we knew little about him that stuff mattered, but we've had four years to get to know him.

If he was a racist or anti-white as the people who like to bring up Rev Wright want to insinuate we'd know that by now. Similarly, he's run the country for four years... who cares if as an eight year old he never opened a lemonade stand.

It's like they're stuck in a time loop.

I didn't watch one second of the RNC convention and didn't watch any commentary during that time either. So I have no comments/opinion about that.

I still think that the Republicans will lie every time they open their mouth or run an ad for Romney/Ryan.

    Speaking of fact checkers:

HOW FAST CAN PAUL RYAN RUN?
    POSTED BY NICHOLAS THOMPSON

Last week, in an interview with Hugh Hewitt, Paul Ryan said that he had run a marathon in under three hours, or, more precisely, “I had a two hour and fifty-something.” That is quite speedy, and running fans in the forums of Letsrun.com treated the claim with great skepticism. The Internet bears no trace of the run, and Ryan doesn’t have the extremely lean frame of your typical fast marathoner. Also, people who run that quickly are generally neurotic about their times. Shouldn’t Ryan remember his exactly? “He is too intense and driven to just forget something like that,” one commentator wrote.

Slate and Runner’s World investigated. Questions were raised, given the criticism of Ryan’s honesty in his convention speech. This evening, the terrific running journalist Scott Douglas figured out that Ryan had actually run a 4:01 in the Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1990, when he was a college student. This is not quite so fast. A 2:55 would have put Ryan in a hundred and thirtieth place, out of the thirty-two hundred and seventy-seven men in that race. A 4:01 put him in nineteen hundred and ninetieth place. It’s the difference between racing and running.

I contacted the campaign this evening about the discrepancy. Ryan, through a spokesman, responded that he’d just mixed things up: “The race was more than 20 years ago, but my brother Tobin—who ran Boston last year—reminds me that he is the owner of the fastest marathon in the family and has never himself ran a sub-three. If I were to do any rounding, it would certainly be to four hours, not three. He gave me a good ribbing over this at dinner tonight.”

Critiquing Ryan over his claims about his marathon time is reaching.

Heh, that's nothing. Kim Jung Il routinely scored an 19 in 18 holes of golf.

Also, the Democratic Party seems to have their ducks in a line more than the Republicans do. This is a big "transition year" for the GOP.

I have no clue what in the world would make you think that.
