It's a pattern of lying behavior. Ryan's brother is a serious recreational marathon runner (having qualified for Boston) and he hasn't broken 3 hours. If you run a four hour marathon, and you have a brother who you're close to, you know what it takes to run sub three. That Ryan choose to say "2:50 something" of all the things he could have said shows he knows that sub three is a big badge of honor for recreational runners in the marathon.

So he lied about it to sound more impressive, even when talking of totally unimportant accomplishments. Even though no-one actually cares about your marathon time other then your running buddies (if you have any). Pathetic really.

And he said marathons plural in the interview, when it turns out that ran just one. Anyone who has run a few marathons can remember them.

It's all part of the GoP campaign to reach out to certain demographics ... in this case the Pathological Liar demographic.

Jon Stewart puts explores the image problem caused by Eastwood's skit at the convention. In my opinion some of his better work, but it was an easy target. Relevant portion 2:00 - 12:09

Yeah, but that is the way the game is played. I know the guy is a fitness buff, and most runners know about a 4:00 hour marathon being an amateur goal. So it could be indicative of someone who plays fast and loose with the truth. When I say a blurb about him doing approx. 2:50 I thought " man that guy is in good shape".

Potentially adds to the Lyin' Ryan meme.

The second part of that episode, where they were running the country like a business and "firing" states, cracked me up.

I really liked the explanation that the Republicans are running against this guy.

A lie is a lie is a lie is a lie.
and a person who can't seem to stop lying needs to be called out on his lies.

I watched the whole train wreck. And I must admit, I laughed a LOT!
The "Hey girl, it's Paul Ryan" memes are going over great at work, btw.

What most suprised me about the Republican Convention. Romney's speech. The convention is the time for red meat. IT's the time to tell your party who you are and talk to THEM.
Romney can not take his republican roots for granted, but he choose to talk to moderates and indepenents. That makes no sense to me at all.

I'm guessing either Things are going much better for Romney than the polls show, or things are going much worse.

If I had to guess much worse. The Akin comments couldn't have come at a worse time. Right before the convention the specter of the war against women was all anyone wanted to talk about. Then you have a hurricane shutting down day one, his convention speakers ignoring him and racist idiots taking over while delegates leave the hall claiming to be disfranchised. In many respects the RNC couldn't have gone worse. Even his vp's speech was castigated from all sides for being deceitful

Can't get much worse than the mess going on within the Republican's ranks. Libertarians holding their own rally. GOP Leadership trying to strong arm grassroots movements with rule changes. A candidate that people don't see all that enthusiastic about.

I don't know all that much about the current state of the Democratic Party, but it seems like they are pretty clearly united behind Obama.

Tax cuts across the board, restoring medicare funding and not cutting the military budget and yet somehow they promise to balance the budget? Any conservatives want to explain that math?

Romney, Ryan vow not to cut military budget

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan went to military country Saturday and promised those serving our country that if elected, they would not cut the military budget.

"Now there’s only one place -- there’s only one place this president’s willing to cut, and not just a little. He wants to cut a trillion dollars out of our military budget," Romney told the crowd to boos. "Look, that’s bad for jobs and it’s bad for our national security. The world is not a safer place right now, not with Iran trying to become nuclear, dangers throughout the world. If I’m president and Paul Ryan’s vice president we will not cut our military budget."

The one thing no one talksabout is how friggin' disorganized and unplanned this whole campaign feels. It feels like...well, ironically, like a really poorly run business.

The entire point of the Republican National Convention is to, in essense, be an informercial for the candidate. What it felt like instead, was a series of infomercials inside an infomercial. And then your Dad shows up and talks to an invisible person.

The whole RNC felt like a series of auditions for 2016. It's supposed to be all about how awesome Mitt Romney is going to be. Instead it was all "THIS IS HOW AWESOME I AM! Oh, yeah, Mitt Romney...am...am I supposed to "woo" now...right...woo! Mitt Romney. Yeah..."

The tried to have a theme every night, but the theme never matched the speeches. They had three guys raise the specter of war, the V.P straight up lied, and I'm not closer to knowing what Mitt actually stands for than anything else. Ann Romney talks about love, then Chris Christie basically says "**** love it's about respect". Even though I thought Mitt gave a fine speech, it's impact was watered down by the amount of people trying to step on his toes to get a head start on the 2016 campaign.

They didn't treat Mitt like a winner, and he didn't come off like one. He came off like a passenger on a ride when everyone wanted to take the next trip.
