Quoted this for truth, AND because you made a Ferengi reference.

Yep, I'm sure he took the job to "spend more time with his family" too.

Wasn't there an Onion story about Urban Meyer taking the OSU job to spend more time away from his family?

No idea, but that would be hilarious.

    Here's the truth.

Libertarianism was around for a long time before Ayn Rand. Our Founding Fathers read it.

Might want to know something about the things you decide to attack, before putting hand to keyboard.

    Oh the irony....

While our founding fathers fought for liberty and read the words of Lock, and the basis for the ideology has been around for some time, modern libertarianism is something else entirely. Ask a dozen libertarians off the street who Lock is and see what kind of response you get. Modern libertarianism is tied more closely to Rand than the roots of "liberty" that came before. That's a fact.

An that's my point. So unless you are going to argue that Rand was a sane rational person full of wonderful ideas that will save the world, I'll stand by my point. MODERN libertarianism is a complete fantasy with no basis in reality.

But hey, thanks for assuming I'm ignorant and once again side tracking one of my statements in an attempt to show how smart you are.

Rand had some very radical ideas but they have been taken to the extreme by those who call themselves followers of hers, or fans of hers.

However, she did sign up for Medicare and Social Security. The Wiki article says "reluctantly"

Rand's radical ideas were taken to the extreme ummmm wow....I'm not even sure how to process that other than to simply respond with, "Rand's radical ideas were already at the extreme."

Dang...that ain't natural. In the top one you can clearly see where the make-up stops at his jawline.

I'm guessing that they used a darker shade of stage make-up to make him "less white".

I always get a kick out of folks who try to blend Ayn Rand and Libertarians. They obviously know much, much, much less that their inflated egos lead them to believe they do.

On the topic, lets hear what Ayn Rand actually said about modern Libertarians...

Q: What do you think of the Libertarian movement? [FHF: “The Moratorium on Brains,” 1971]

AR: All kinds of people today call themselves “libertarians,” especially something calling itself the New Right, which consists of hippies, except that they’re anarchists instead of collectivists. But of course, anarchists are collectivists. Capitalism is the one system that requires absolute objective law, yet they want to combine capitalism and anarchism. That is worse than anything the New Left has proposed. It’s a mockery of philosophy and ideology. They sling slogans and try to ride on two bandwagons. They want to be hippies, but don’t want to preach collectivism, because those jobs are already taken. But anarchism is a logical outgrowth of the anti-intellectual side of collectivism. I could deal with a Marxist with a greater chance of reaching some kind of understanding, and with much greater respect. The anarchist is the scum of the intellectual world of the left, which has given them up. So the right picks up another leftist discard. That’s the Libertarian movement.

Its also comical as all heck to see people with libertarian beliefs equated with what is the current tea party. Yet another example of knownothingness

Ayn Rand was a cold heartless.....well....she saw compassion as evil and mercy as weakness, empathy as pathetic.
The world will be a much better place when we mature past her juvenile and emotionally stunted excuse for a philosophy.

I agree mostly. I dislike the vast bulk of Objectivism for some of the very reasons you just outlined.
