Gotta tell you all.. there seems to be a lot of chicken counting in here these days. This election is not in the bag for Obama, not in the least. The polls may look good and there may not be many undecideds anymore, but that doesn't mean that Obama will win unless the Democratic base comes out to vote (something they are notoriously fickle about doing).
I remember how horribly butthurt I was when W got reelected in 2004. I really could not believe it. From my point of view he was a truly horrible and incompetent President, and there was absolutely no way he could possibly win reelection after everything he had done. But he did. I was astounded, but there it was.
I never want to go through that again.![]()

Just to rebut this:http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-0...hink-view.htmlWhen the U.S. Census Bureau reported last week that 46 million Americans, or 15 percent of the population, live in poverty, conservatives said that five decades of the welfare state have had virtually no effect. Liberals answered that laissez-faire economics have kept poverty rates stubbornly high.
This debate is based on a false premise: Poverty isn’t as high as the U.S. government says it is. The reason is that federal programs, supported by Democrats and Republicans alike, have dramatically reduced poverty and, by extension, income inequality.
To understand why, let’s look at what the numbers don’t show. The Census Bureau doesn’t count safety-net benefits, including food stamps, housing aid, school lunches and other noncash transfers.
* * *
When adjusted for these flaws, the level of poverty is much lower, says a new paper by economists Bruce D. Meyer at the University of Chicago and James X. Sullivan at the University of Notre Dame. Instead of 15 percent, it is only 4 percent to 5 percent. And instead of being higher than it was in 1980, poverty has declined by two-thirds.
In other words, the war on poverty hasn’t been won, but it’s making inroads. The lion’s share of the credit, the professors conclude, goes to the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit and Social Security.

As usual, no matter the subject of any thread it eventually becomes about twa, the attention queen.
Getting back to the thread topic, the quote demonstrates quite clearly that Romney has no idea what life is like for those unfortunates born without his advantages in life. I mean, this is not earthshaking news, there are literally dozens of other examples. The man seems honestly completely unaware of the advantages enjoyed by the white male progeny of a millionaire state governor gifted with the best private education, ushered into the most exclusive of clubs, staked to a present of stock greater than most voters see in a lifetime, a first home bestowed on him at no cost. A man who does not understand those advantages is probably perfect for Bain Capital. He has no business in the Oval Office.
I hear ya.
I'm not voting for Obama though. And the Romney/Ryan ticket will not be funny after the campaigning is over, whether they win or lose.
Additionally, I don't recall the Republicans going after Bush as strongly as they're going after Romney for being a completely incompetent candidate.

I've been keeping a running electoral map for several weeks now. Whenever the new polls come out I update the map to reflect the latest numbers. I never move a state to a candidate unless there are polls that are outside of the margin of error, usually I require multiple polls to be outside. For the first time since I started doing this I have a candidate over 270 electoral votes. Barack Obama is at 271. The states that got him there could easily be switched back into undecided within the next few days but it shows that Romney has a lot of ground to make up. The debates will be huge for him.
The state that got him over the top? I moved Ohio into likely Obama today after polling over the past few weeks has showed widening leads for the President including a 7 point lead in last weeks Fox News Poll and a 10 point lead in today's Quinnipiac Poll.
You really expected and WANTED Kerry & Edwards? LOL!
I just think the parallels are astounding, right down to the lying VP candidates. The people who supported Kerry & Edwards were willing to support one of the worst tickets I have ever seen from the dems because as bad as they were, they were not Bush. Now the republicans are doing it with the Romney-Ryan ticket because they aren't Obama. But the fact is that Bush was better than the dems painted him and Obama is better than the republicans would have us believe. Once again it is up to the pragmatic moderates and independents like myself to save this county from a knee jerk reaction that would make things worse than they are.
You are all welcome.![]()
That's your opinion, and you are entitled to it. In my opinion Bush was not "better than he has been painted" at all. I saw the Iraq war as a horrible, cynical disaster of the worst kind, and I when I added in his politicization of the Justice Department and his horrible judicial appointments, and his short sighted tax policy that blew up the deficit, and everything else, and I became convinced that he had to go.
Kerry was not my choice, but he was not some feckless clown either. He understands foreign policy and he has some accomplishments (Edwards I cannot defend at all, but I always hated him).
