Has anyone been reading the Doonesbury cartoons mocking Mitten's Vietnam draft dodging?

Mitt Romney debating Mitt Romney...

A follow up on my post (which is more specific in details than this) in this thread yesterday:
Mother of slain Navy SEAL: Romney shouldn’t politicize her son’s death

Ok, I know that this is rank speculation, and I know I call other people out on stuff this all the time, but I still have to say....
I can't even imagine how big of astorm this would raise with Rush and Hannity and all the rest if Obama had been the one claiming to have a special relationship with a dead soldier, and the truth of that account was questioned by the family and the people who were actually there. It would be a self-righteous wall of patriotic outrage that would block out the sun for days.
So I'll be tuning in to Fox and Friends tomorrow to see Mitt called out on it.![]()
"The Internet is like a herd of performing elephants with diarrhea: massive, difficult to redirect, awe-inspiring, entertaining, and a source of mind-boggling amounts of excrement when you least expect it" - I wish I had said this.
Romney told an Iowa campaign audience on Tuesday about a chance encounter with a Navy SEAL during a Christmas party in San Diego, although he did not invoke Doherty by name.
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/m...-election.html
Elf Ellefson says Doherty was basically amused by Romney, who Ellefson claims introduced himself more than once, which would be kind of funny.

It doesn't sound like Doherty's sister and mother see this exactly the same way.
Doherty's sister said : " The whole nation has wrapped their arms around Glen. " and the family as a whole didn't find the Romney story to be overly political. " It was a very chance encounter and the fact that his campaign even realized it, is amazing. " " It was nice, what he said. "

Could someone, in a non-partisan way (lol), please explain the Romney/Ryan plan as it relates to military spending? Obama said 2 trillion more during the debate, and it went unchallenged? Is that true?
The soldiers gave three cheers as they urged their tired horses north across the uneven hills. Some of the mounts, exhausted after a week of almost continual marching, began to lag behind; others, spurred on by their enthusiastic riders, began to edge past the regiment's commander. "Boys, hold your horses," Custer cautioned; "there are plenty of them down there for us all."
<edit>---I may have misread you Spear, so I edited out my thought that you personally were trying to spin the matter---I left the rest in, even if it's repetitious. I wasn't real bad.
. I heard the complete audio tape of Romney at one event (which one I don't know). It was lengthy, detailed, and left a very crafted (and I could easily discern the effort) impression that he and Glen had quite the connection. The one word that came to mind even then was "slick", but I didn't know where the story was heading while I was listening at that point. I still remember much of that the detail about how many activities, places, interests etc "he and Glen" had in common.
I ain't no dummy or reactionary, and Romany was milking it like a hungry babe with a big beautiful teat. When he skilfully (and I use that word very deliberately) delivered his "punch-line" about how "and now I find the was one of the guys killed" AFTER all the build up, the crowd there gave a collective gasp and moan that I could feel over the radio even on tape (and also felt personally as it was hitting me the same way--surprised, and I didn't know the rest of the story that was to immediately follow).
That's part of why I even bothered posting about it when I got home off the road that night--I was mad at how theatrical he obviously played it even before I heard the story of how "it wasn't even that way." Likewise, I HEARD his fellow SEAL talk, at length, how they felt about all this and the truth of how Glen reacted to Romney and what actually occurred during the event---I didn't read it.
He was right there and also was in daily contact with Glen, btw, including the day before the day he died (or the day before), which is why the local press was talking to him in the first place and then he kept seeing Romney and hearing this piece being played and decided to speak out with encouraging from the other SEAL team member who was there at the party (a on-political event that Romney showed up at by mistake) and Glen's family. This really did bother me and any attempt by anyone to spin this as anything other an atrocious abuse in the name of self-serving political posturing (I don't care by whom/right/left) will get little respect from me.

NBC/WSJ/Marist poll: Romney gains in key swing states
A week after President Barack Obama’s lackluster debate performance, Republican challenger Mitt Romney has made some gains in three key swing states among those most likely to vote, according to the latest round of NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls.
Romney and Obama remain in a virtual tie in Virginia and Florida, and the Democratic incumbent maintains a slight advantage in Ohio.
Romney saw his largest gain in Virginia, where he now edges the president 48 percent to 47 percent, a 3-point reversal from last week’s poll, released the day of the first presidential debate. The spread is within the poll’s margin of error.
Interesting factoid buried in there is that early voting in OH is breaking for Obama heavily. It also looks like FL is still very much in play.

The hypocrisy on the right with regards to deficit spending / defense spending is astounding.
Conservatives cant trust Republicans
A good story about Mitt's flip-flopping ways

I think this debate thing is a little overhyped: As they said Mondale crushed Reagan in a debate and lost 56 of the 57 States?
