Its called taking being on both sides of many issues to the next level.
as far as his comments on Israel. I'm Jewish like a bunch of posters here. I support Israeli Jews. I don't agree with who the Palestinians choose as their leaders and their message. But, I also think that there are some things you don't say because nothing good can come from it. Maybe that's because I'm an American-Jew and not an Israeli one.
Romney praises health care in Israel, where ‘strong government influence’ has driven down costs
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney had some very kind things to say about the Israeli health care system at a fundraiser there Monday. He praised Israel for spending just 8 percent of its GDP on health care and still remaining a “pretty healthy nation.”
“Our gap with Israel [on health spending] is 10 points of GDP,” Romney said. “We have to find ways, not just to provide health care to more people, but to find ways to fund and manage our health care costs.”
Romney’s point about Israel’s success in controlling health care costs is spot on: Its health care system has seen health care costs grow much slower than other industrialized nations.
How it has gotten there, however, may not be to the Republican candidate’s liking: Israel regulates its health care system aggressively, requiring all residents to carry insurance and capping revenue for various parts of the country’s health care system.
Israel created a national health care system in 1995, largely funded through payroll and general tax revenue. The government provides all citizens with health insurance: They get to pick from one of four competing, nonprofit plans. Those insurance plans have to accept all customers—including people with pre-existing conditions—and provide residents with a broad set of government-mandated benefits.

If the simplistic views of the Israeli/Palestinian situation that Romney was espousing is actually the way he understands things over there then he is in for some serious hurdles in foreign policy matters if he wins.
.McCain: Israeli-Palestinian differences have ‘nothing to do with cultures’
By NBC's Jamie Novogrod and Domenico Montanaro
TAMPA, Fla. -- It’s government, “not cultures” that define the difference between Israelis and Palestinians. That’s according to Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who appeared to differ with presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney as he tried to defend him.
“I am sure that Gov. Romney was not talking about difference in cultures, or difference in anybody superior or inferior,” said McCain, a chief Romney foreign policy surrogate, today during a news conference after an event here with Sens. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC). “What I’m sure Gov. Romney was talking was that the Israeli economy has grown and prospered in a dramatic fashion. And unfortunately, the Palestinians have not had that same economic development
Running for almost 5 years now.... fun times.
He is walking a pretty thin line with the references to "culture" and "hand of providence". Those can very easily be seen as "Culturally inferior" and "God doesn't like you as much". Not sure if this is all calculated or if Romney is just clueless and tone deaf. I would generally trend towards "calculated" but with all of the other things Romney has said and done so far that cement him as tone deaf and out of touch I wouldn't put it past him that he really is just clueless.
I love this thread. It's going to be a fun election this year.
A question for you: As a Jewish voter have you been happy with how Obama's handled Israel over the past 3+ years? Just wondering. I know much of the Jewish vote is showing that it will still go with the Dem this upcoming election, not shocking news of course, but that it's also presently polling quite a few points where it's historically been.

I've been fine with it. Honestly, its not a top priority for me in this election.
The GOP/Israel thing is more about Evangelicals than American-Jews. Just like Obama would need a strong showing of minorities to win, Romney needs Evangelicals to come out like they did for Bush to have a chance.
Everybody knows that Israel isn't going to probably attack Iran because of their other "neighbors" in the region. They'd need us to do it.
We all know Romney told Bibi to go ahead and attack on 11/7- day after election should he win; then Obama can deal with the aftermath before Romney takes office.
Romney is nothing more than a puppet and will do the will of those who helped him get elected and nothing more. Irsael is just one thing of many things.
Wow. So let me get this straight. The guy who is to be the point man against Obamacare developed the "beta" version of it as Governor, and just went on record as praising an even more "socialist" version of it.How it has gotten there, however, may not be to the Republican candidate’s liking: Israel regulates its health care system aggressively, requiring all residents to carry insurance and capping revenue for various parts of the country’s health care system.
Israel created a national health care system in 1995, largely funded through payroll and general tax revenue. I'm beginning to think he's just not smart enough to be President. At the very least, one thing should be painfully clear by now... The only thing he really stands for is that he is against anything that Obama and the democrats do without any consideration of reason or merit.
This guy is a clown. I thought about making a thread to discuss his international tour. So far, every time he opens his mouth, he ends up insulting and alienating. He has the charisma of a hemorrhoid
Romney, STFU. Who is giving you campaign advice? Seriously, go visit countries, smile, shake hands, and say plenty of thank you's. THAT'S IT.

The soldiers gave three cheers as they urged their tired horses north across the uneven hills. Some of the mounts, exhausted after a week of almost continual marching, began to lag behind; others, spurred on by their enthusiastic riders, began to edge past the regiment's commander. "Boys, hold your horses," Custer cautioned; "there are plenty of them down there for us all."
Actually, I understand that he was endorsed by Lech Walesa in Poland. (Who was apparently ticked that Obama didn't visit him, on a recent visit.)
(Solidarity, the Union, felt differently about him.)
I feel bad for McCain trying to defend this jackass.
