I think a large part of the Volt's failure was it was a luxury vehicle. People who want a luxury vehicle are not very concerned about whether gas is $3.50 or $4.00. As to propping up the auto industry, it is among other things a national security issue ( I imagine a couple hard working Republican's work on the line, God knows they owned dealerships). Who will manufacture tanks, et al in a war. It is mandated that all navy ships be made in America. That is about the extent of American shipbuilding. Would you let those shipyards go bankrupt to save some bucks buying ships overseas? Because without the government propping them up those shipyards would have closed years ago.

I wish he would have. Obama's leadership style wasn't my preference but I think he gets short-changed on his accomplishments.

I think more domestic energy production would be one way to create more jobs. That was Romney's first point. He also mentioned trade agreements, which would be one way to help more manufacturing jobs to remain here.

The real thing that will help more jobs is to reduce uncertainty in the economy. I'm not sure what that will take. Many businesses are sitting on cash because they don't know what the economy is going to do.

I obviously hope Romney wins. It would be great to revisit this post in a couple of years.

This is our biggest problem as a nation. The now defunct obsession with "national security"

National security is achieved through economic security and trade relationships. Not through navy warships

BTW, a Mitt Romney presidency equals war with Iran.

Are you deaf? The republicans turned the down the money in the states then congress denied him the money in his budget. You're just a hater...

Edit: He is trying, but they are making it absolutely impossible for him to do his job...

Again, where was the leadership on this? 1 proposal and a website? If the President focused on high speed rail like he did Obamacare, we'd have something.

6 years 53 billion is less then 9 billion a year. The Tysons rail is costing 2 billion dollars. 9 billion a year barely makes a dent on the needs of high speed rail.

Completely underwhelming token proposal with no leadership. A lack of boldness which has been the prime issue of this Presidencey.

It is a tired excuse that "they are obstructing" when "they" control one half of 1/3 of the government by a few seats.

Clinton got stuff done with Newt. Reagan with Tip O'Niell. But this President has spent more time deflecting and blaming then leading

The only person who’s going to be penalized and have difficulty is the law-abiding citizen,

Two years with two overly long, stupid, drawn out fights over the two signature pieces off legislation he did pass.

I ain't saying Obama's presidency has been perfect. It hasn't been. I think in those two first years, he wanted everything to be bipartisan, and that wound up screwing him. He had the majority, true, but he didn't really want to use it, because he didn't want to appear partisan. Despite the fact that no matter what he did, Republicans would call him partisan. I do think in those first two years, he tried far too much to be liked and he didn't press his advantage.

I think eventually he realized that trying to cowtow to people who weren't going to try and meet him halfway was not going to work and in the last two years he basically said "eff it" to trying to work with Republicans, but by then it was too late.

I'd expect that he would change that stance in his second term.

Maybe I am a cheap bastard, but to me 42K ain't economy. I guess you could call it mid-grade, but that would be why I buy used.

BTW, I am biased, but I don't seeing that speech moving the dial for Romney. And the Clint Eastwood thing (I am a fan) was uncomfortable.
