Why Ronald Reagan Would Not Lead Today’s GOP

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: “Ronald Reagan would have a very difficult, if not impossible time being nominated in this atmosphere of the Republican Party.”

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA): Reagan “would never be elected today in my opinion.”
Former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE): “Reagan wouldn't identify with this party.
Reagan, when you look at the historical record of his presidency, has less and less in common with today's GOP, and it's a good bet that his popularity will suffer because of it.
"Let us strengthen our health care system so that Americans of all ages can be secure in their futures without the fear of financial ruin." - Ronald Reagan

Romney Family Investment Ties To Voting Machine Company That Could Decide The Election Causing Concern

Tony Tamer, H.I.G.’s founder, turns out to be a major bundler for the Mitt Romney campaign, along with three other directors of H.I.G. who are also big-time money raisers for Romney.

Indeed, as fate would have it, two of those directors—Douglas Berman and Brian Schwartz— were actually in attendance at the now infamous “47 percent” fundraiser in Boca Raton, Florida.

“Talking points” prepared by the CIA on Sept. 15, the same day that Rice taped three television appearances, support her description of the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate as a reaction to Arab anger about an anti-Muslim video prepared in the United States. According to the CIA account, “The currently available information suggests that the demonstrations in Benghazi were spontaneously inspired by the protests at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and evolved into a direct assault against the U.S. Consulate and subsequently its annex. There are indications that extremists participated in the violent demonstrations.”
Republicans seem to have shifted their stance today on the talk shows from the administration willfully misled the public to focusing on the lack of security.

    On Meet the Press:

Gregory: Can you explain how Romney's tax plan works without just saying "it works".

Portman: Two points: Point one, it works. Point two, at least Romney has a plan.

I can't believe this is actually working.

    Ignorance is astoundingly common.
I mean real down and dirty barely-smart-enough-to-breathe ignorance.
And the fact is, the GOP are absolutely banking on it.
    the hubris is astonishing.
It's more than a little frightening.

It is very interesting too, that these jackholes who have been screaming that the government is incompetent, untrustworthy, criminal, even... they're answer when pressed for details is "TRUST US".

It's dumbfounding that people are SO ****ING STUPID as to eat it up.
But man, there's no room for elbows at the trough, is there?

See, in my mind, this is the fault of the political parties who use their propaganda to cause this.

And yes, one party has been telling us how the governmentg can not and should not be trusted.

    But that is their reply.

    trust us..

Politics aside, does anyone know what those two words usually mean in every other walk of life?
Typically it means someone is about to try and **** you over.

Not only is "trust the government" now the mantra when it comes to these details, what kind of elitist crap is this?
Are real Americans now too dim to comprehend the numbers?

    Bang,

It wasn't my observation, but it's as simple as a voting block that chooses to embrace Mitt Romney saying repeatedly in the same debate "I will create 12 million jobs" and "Government does not create jobs"

If you can't find dissonance there is any other justification unbelievable?

I still do not understand why people think Reagan was so great. Yeah Government is the problem unless it secretly sells arms to Iran.

For all the rhetoric about the left's hero worship of Obama it really pales to the canonization of Reagan by the right. You realize that he established deficit spending (defense and tax cut based) as way to make American's happy. Romney's plan seems very Reaganesque in that aspect.

Both sides don't do themselves any favors by treating the electorate as dummies. They do it because they can and let's face it, the posters here in ES on average are probably far more engaged politically than the low information folks out there at large.

This assumes that conservatives give a crap about deficit spending and the debt, which they don't.
