Default Who trades for Peyton Manning, if Colts have #1 pick and get Luck?

This only happens if the Colts have the number one pick. Their new coach and possibly new gm or new coach and old GM will decide it's time to move on. You don't not take Andrew Luck if you are the Colts. While there would be a couple of down years while you build a team around Luck; if you have the opportunity you do it. A young QB who can give you 10-15 years vs. an old QB coming off an injury with maybe 3-4 years left. The decision is simple.

If the Colts have the number #1 pick, they must take Luck. Peyton will not be there to mentor someone and will demand a trade.

So my question: If Peyton is on the trading block next offseason; which team trades for him?

That might be the #1 story next offseason. I would say he would go to a team that really is only a QB away from contending. He won't go to team that has no shot at the bowl. I think the future LA Vikings could be possibility. I am sure the Redskins will be in discussed but I really don't see that as realistic.

why couldn't the colts draft Luck and keep starting Manning while Luck develops under him?

Manning is going to do the same thing like the other greats do. Keep playing. He isn't going to help the youngin learn. Manning has too much pride to move over for a rookie, he is going to retire and force a trade if they bring in Luck.

The Colts aren't drafting Luck, and Peyton isn't going anywhere.

Have you watched the Colts play? There's a reason they're 0-8, and it's not just because of the QB. That team has so many holes and aging players it's not even funny.

If Irsay and Polian are smart, they'll auction that pick off for a king's ransom and be set with high picks for the next 2 or 3 drafts. This isn't like the Favre/Rodgers situation in GB, where Favre's play was noticeably declining and the position needed a successor. Peyton is still playing at a high level, and should be for another 3, 4, 5 years. It's still too early to look for the next heir to the throne; there will be others.

The more appropriate question is: "Who trades for Luck if the Colts get the #1 pick"

^^^^^ Right on the money B&GVOL24! How much will a team give up for Luck is the question.

Manning will be around for 5 more years and they will build up around him with all the rewards they reap through the trade for the top pick!

I'm feeling Caldwell could go regardless of what they are saying now if they can't win a few games.

What do you think the Colts record would be if Peyton had played this year?

If the Colts get the #1 pick they can either trade it or trade Manning and probably get several #1s either way, Such a trade would depend on a willing partner and, of course, Manning passing a physical.

Hate to say it, but I'm far from ruling the Skins out of such a scenario. Who knows WHAT Shanny is thinking in regard to QB.

Record with Peyton? Hard to say, but not 0-8. Realistically they're probably 5-3 with him, maybe 4-4, hell, maybe 6-2.

That's kind of the point though. For years, Manning has covered up the holes and lack of depth on that roster.

Think of it this way, and be honest with yourself:

How good would Pierre Garcon, 6th round pick, have been if he was drafted by another team? How about undrafted Blair White? White's rookie season (remember, nobody drafted him) he had 36 catches, 355 yards, and 5 TDs. Does he put up those numbers if its not Peyton throwing him the ball? Or even 4th round pick Austin Collie, who in his first 2 seasons had 60 & 58 catches, 676 & 649 yards, 7 & 8 TDs, respectively. Were these guys just overlooked in the draft? Or did Peyton develop these guys into productive players?

Point I'm trying to make is, Manning is all they have. After him, the talent level is way below average, and you can't keep putting duct-tape over the holes expecting them to go away. If they want to be contenders, with or without Peyton or Luck, they need to seriously revamp this team at just about every position. And if they're in a position to trade the #1 pick, stock up on high-round picks for the next 2 or 3 years, and bring in some high-grade talent, they'd be insane to pass that up IMO.

Like he said. If the Colts are in a position to get Luck- then the Manning era is over. Manning will not play for the Colts with his successor there. You think Joe Montana was happy when Steve Young was there. I remember a young Aikman not liking when Johnson got Steve Walsh- think that was his name.

Peyton will want to go somewhere where he can finish his career and that team would have to be a team contending.

I'd get Luck. Keep Peyton, let him be slightly unhappy. You don't know how that neck will hold up, and while Peyton may not teach Luck, Luck gets to observe him up close and personal..just like Kwame Brown learning from Michael Jordan..

    Poor example.

If the Colts get the number one pick, they're trading that pick for a handful of number ones and a couple twos. Then they beef up everything around Manning for the next 4-5 years, or however many Manning is around for.

If you draft a QB number one, he HAS to start week one. It's not the same situation as with Favre and Rodgers, or even Brunell and Campbell. You don't draft a guy Number One overall and sit him.

Why does everyone assume Luck would start day one for the Colts? Manning could probably easily play another 2-3 years while Luck develops. At that point, it would probably be time for Manning to hang 'em up anyways.

Because if you draft a QB number one (hell, for that matter any player drafted number one overall) they pretty much have to start week one. It would just be asenine to NOT start a number one overall pick.

    No they don't.

    Who ever said that?

i heard Mike Golic this morning say that the Colt's would draft Luck and keep manning and let Luck suit behind Manning like Rodgers did in Green Bay.....after i processed what he said, i yelled at the radio "no F-ing way" .......times have changed in just the last two years or so...and there is no way in hell he will sit the bench, Cam Newton alone shows that you will play the #1 and Cam is no Luck........i agree with you Hit....they will trade that pick away to someone and get better with Manning for another 3-5 year run.

I agree with others, there's no way the Colts can draft Luck. Sure Luck could be the next Manning, but they have so many other holes. Even if Manning was playing this year, their OL needs work, they have no running game, and their defense is terrible. While Luck might sell them more tickets, trading that pick for more picks will help them win games.
