This is the first I've seen this thread, or really been on ES for a couple of days so forgive me if I reiterate something someone else has said...
Personally, I think McQueary has a lot to answer for. Why did he allow this horrific act to continue when he walked in on it? Why didn't he intervene & stop it immediately? Why did he need to be told how to respond to this? Why didn't he call the police? Why didn't he call on Louisville Slugger? SOMETHING! He runs home to his Daddy & asks him what to do???? Why didn't he follow up?
This is horrifying. Ever since this story broke, all I can think of is how that kid in the shower had to have felt. Even tho he wasn't the 1st & certainly not the last (thanks to McQueary), the story of how this creep McQueary saw the event & did nothing (essentially)...I am heartbroken for that child & every child that this scumbag Sandusky violated. When he gets convicted, he better hope that there isn't a mishap with the locking systems within the prison. He won't last 10 minutes in General Population. Honestly, I don't know that there are words in the English language that can describe just how mortifying this story is...& it continues to grow.
Very. Very. Sad.
Yeah that is not something you hand over to anyone else other than law enforcement and outside of the University system. I don't witness that without calling or worse, physically stopping the act and violently. That would probably be wrong in of itself but I don't know that I have that much emotional control when confronted with something like that.
RIP 21
NO Pressure, No Diamonds, KNOW Pressure, Know Diamonds!
Griffin said that he was going to watch the game with his family and that he will never attend a Super Bowl if he needs a ticket to get in.
has there been any more development on the rumor that second mile was pimping kids to rich donors?
I couldn't have said this better myself. I feel NOTHING for the adults involved. Paterno gets NO sympathy from me. He may have no criminal involvement, but he allowed this to continue. I feel NOTHING for him. My sympathy is reserved for the children & their families that were ruined & destroyed by 1 & enabled by many.
I would not be saddened AT ALL if the whole of Penn State was bankrupted by this. Shut the whole place down as far as I'm concerned. It is stained soil.
How do u go from this???
Schultz: inappropriately grabbing of the young boy’s genitals.
To this???
Curley: inappropriate conduct or horsing around.
Terrible

Even though Joe didn't do enough and it's an honest personal reflection unlike most statements given in a situation like this. I think the man told the truth about what was in the released testimony. The snakes are maintaining innocence because they are snakes. Now Joe probably isn't telling the whole truth at the moment, but he's being honest about wishing he did more. He is the only person up to point to show contrition, and it seems genuine. I'm not making excuses for the guy, but just putting that out there. The full testimony and evidence which is rumored to be over 400 pages will come out at some point.

People are trying to protect their own neck. I don't believe anything anybody says outside of McQueary and that coward is dead to me anyway because like somebody said earlier he didn't find the closest lousiville slugger or riddell helmet. I have thought so many times how different this situation would be if McQueary had any kind of... anything.
I mean ****! The guy would've been the complete opposite of what he is now with one measley swing from that 220 lb frame.
I work with a retired cop.
His explanation is this... in the past, when he was called to a "burglary" it was often reduced to "theft." And it wasn't his call. He would do what his superiors asked. When crime is low, you want statistics to reinforce that. And the greater area--town or city or county--want crime statistics to be low. It makes the area appear safe and most of the time they are safe. Then there are outlier stats that don't fit in with the usual stats. Efforts are made to reduce them.
This is common nationwide. And it's not unusual at all. In my opinion, it is wrong, wrong, WRONG.
It appears Curley may have wanted things to appear less severe b/c of the over-arching consequences of a larger crime. And for that--and many other retarded decisions--he should be JAILED for a very long time.
There is no doubt in my mind that many involved in this scandal have a CYA file at home. (Cover Your Ass file). And that file is probably loaded with proof of every single thing they were involved in, including memo's that proved they were trying to have the pedophilia investigated with no help form the higher ups. My coworker still has his CYA file to this day. There is no doubt in my mind that McQueary is still employed for 2 reasons... 1.) he has a CYA file and dares them to fire him... and 2.) I think he falls under the protection of Whistle-blower laws in PA.
I will say, as an aside, that the local newspaper (the Patriot News) has done an outstanding job reporting this. They have been much better than the four letter network and any national organization all the while without nearly the same amount of resources. They also did a great job several years ago with the pay raise scandal in the PA Congress.
