We're just grasping at everything to prove Paterno is a control freak? As we've seen this year Bolden is not that good. But Joe believed in him and thought he could improved. Bolden wanted to leave because he was giving up at Penn State and feeling he couldn't compete against a walk on. What coach who believed in a player, invested considerable amount of time and effort and money to bring him in, would let him freely leave without fulfilling his potential.

You know how serial killers do things to hint at what they're doing, because they think they're invincible and can never be caught? That's what that felt like reading that.

I'm running out of good words to describe this filth.

Happens ALL THE TIME in college sports....and honestly, how involved do you think Joe Paterno was in Rob Bolden's recruitment? Let's be real.

From the Second Mile Website: http://www.thesecondmile.org/aboutUs.php

Many children face adversity even before they understand how to dream. The Second Mile, founded in 1977 in State College, Pennsylvania, is a statewide non-profit organization for children who need additional support and who would benefit from positive human contact. The Second Mile plans, organizes, and offers activities and programs for children - and adults who work with them - to promote self-confidence as well as physical, academic, and personal success.
This was Sandusky's feeding ground. He did'nt give a **** about these children. Only the Lord knows how many more children were violated by this piece of ****.

Boss, it seems like he founded it for the sole purpose of doing this stuff. That's what kills me. Free range for 30+ years.

I really wish this idea that Joe did nothing would stop. He didn't make many home visits any longer and he wasn't present at as many film sessions but he still ran that program like Stalin. And while he may not have been involved with Boldin on a personal level....JAY WAS.

Bolden was Jay's baby. This was going to be the guy who could prove that Jay could develop a QB. I'm convinced the only reason he has taken snaps this year is because Jay needed him out there. Jay needed Bolden to become a star.

I don't think child sexual abuse is quite that simple.

Most of these types of abusers actually like helping kids. I would bet dollars to donuts that you could take a survey of that program and the vast majority of kids had a wonderful experience and love Sandusky. What often happens is that the abuser sees the sex as more "help." It becomes a twisted expression of love. I've noticed that there are no charges of violence or physical abuse against Sandusky. I find that interesting.

Remember when Michael Jackson was interviewed and said that the most loving thing you can do with someone is share a bed with them? I think he actually believed that. And I suspect that Sandusky had similar thoughts (assuming that everything is true). In a weird way, it's possible that Sandusky is telling the truth when he says that he is not guilty, because he believes he did nothing wrong.

This is what makes child sexual abuse so hard to discover and why treatment is so difficult. It's not like physical abuse where you can work on anger management or remove a variable like alcohol or drugs.

Here is something that is almost certain, by the way: Someone sexually abused Jerry Sandusky in his youth. Probably around age 10.

and I get that...and it would have been a major egg on the face of the Paternos if Bolden transferred. However, I'm just curious as to how often players are NOT granted their transfer request by a coaching staff?

I strongly believe that everything you have written here is probably true. Especially the last sentence.

Out of curiosity, have you ever noticed how many teachers and priests and coaches get arrested for serial child sexual abuse? People with this compulsion tend to find themselves in situations where - low and behold - there are a lot of kids. In rare cases is that part of some master sinister plan. These men (and women) are usually not super villains.

I'm trying not to be preachy but some of the discussion on this is devolving into "Don't get into dangerous blue vans" territory. Sandusky does not come across as Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs. And there are sadly an awful lot of men just like him in similar positions.

    http://www.thesecondmile.org/ourTeam/bod/bodHono.php

So, Second Mile's real BoD were told in 2002 that an incident had occurred with Sandusky and an underaged boy in the showers at Penn State, but they were never made aware of more serious allegations. Instead, they waited until 2008 to take action when Sandusky told them he was under investigation before removing him from programs involving children.

Now, looking at that who's who list of the Honorary BOD above, is there any wonder that there was such hesitance to make waves, between the power of the Penn State football program and that sort of backing?

I'm going to go one step further. His father ran a youth center in Washington, PA (Washington County represent!!). He lived above it. I'm going to say his father was not the abuser. I'm going to predict it was a family friend, a male, and it took place in connection to that center somehow.

Sandusky's pattern of abuse is so specific. Often there is a pattern, but his borders on OCD.

I would go to bat for that statement. That's why you'll often find children who grew up being physically abused, now physically abusing their children or wives. That's what they experienced during their learning and growing years.

I'm no doctor or psychologist but it happens enough where there is a correlation.

Mark Wahlberg is on the board, eh?

    That was a surprising one.
