Default Miami Herald: Dolphins trading for Peyton Manning next year is intriguing possibility

The Dolphins and Colts are locked in a battle of titans — well, titanic losers — to see which will finish with the NFL’s worst record and earn the opportunity to draft Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck — the man considered the best prospect available in the 2012 draft.
Luck is supposed to save a franchise. In Indy, he’d be the successor to Peyton Manning. In Miami, he’d be the guy who saves us from the 16 dudes that succeeded Dan Marino......

If the Dolphins carry on winning, and Indy doesn't, that would be disastrous. I still can't see Peyton going anywhere, but if that scenario came to pass, that would be a kick in the teeth for anyone hoping of trading upto 1.

    Hail.

Question is would Peyton go to Miami? Yes, they have Marshall, but that's about it.

At least back in Indy he has some of his guys in Clark, Wayne, Collie, Garcon.

Collie & Garcon were no names before Peyton turned them into household names. No one knew he Jacob Tamme was last year either.

He would make Bess, Hartline & Fasano household names as well, plus they have Daniel Thomas and Bush, which is an improvement over Indy's running game.

If Peyton gets traded to Miami that would make the AFC East by far the toughest division in football.

Fasano was average with a pretty solid QB early in his career

You're right, he was good when he had Bledsoe as his QB.

Trading for a vet on the downside of his career, coming off a major injury, without a solid supporting cast, mortgaging your future to do so, and expecting him to be the final piece... this sounds like a reissue of many Redskins articles written in the last decade.

    Oh wait.

This would probably be the worst trade ever if the Dolphins did this.

Manning to Bush would be scary. Great back to dump off to, and to run some routes. Manning has never had an RB with the WR/like athletics that Bush has.

Jake Long is having an off year but he's still a huge upgrade over what Peyton has had since Tarik Glenn retired. If healthy Peyton could take Miami to the playoffs.

Maybe not as elusive as Bush but Manning played with Faulk in 98' completeing 86 passes to him and Edge was a good reciever himself. Bush could certainly play a similar role in the passing game.

I honestly cannot see the Colts trading Peyton. I think they love him too much even if they get Luck.

This is going to be one of the most memorable offseasons in history. 24 won't have **** on the 2012 Offseason.

I really think they would trade the pick for a bunch of picks to reinforce the roster for Manning. Of all the teams (I think the Seattle might be in the running, but we have more ammo than them) I think we would have the advantage, because I don't see Indy trading within the conference, all things being equal.

Bush is nothing compared to Faulk and Edge as Colts.

This trade would almost be like when the Colts let Unitas go to San Diego except that the Colts would get some stuff.
A bad plan well executed may work. A good plan badly executed will always fail.
