Time to remove "Land of the Free" from the anthem.

Yay. Now the government has the direct power to arrest me and throw away the key for any reason they want.

The Greatest Nation on Earth... acting exactly like the enemies we've defeated to achieve that reputation.

Make no mistake since 911 we have marched steadily towards being a police state. how many freedoms have we lost or had curtailed since 911

I think the figure was over 800k involved in intelligence work and this does not include fed local and state police

Newsflash. Fear-mongering worked long before Bush. Blaming everything on Bush is getting really old. He hasn't been in office in 3 years. Come up with some original stuff.

Roll call vote to pass the bill.

The 7 Senators voting against it:

    Coburn (R-OK)
    Harkin (D-IA)
    Lee (R-UT)
    Merkley (D-OR)
    Paul (R-KY)
    Sanders (I-VT)
    Wyden (D-OR)

Please, God, someone kill this tumor of a bill. I cannot believe 93 Senators voted for this bill. Hey, Senators, why don't you read those little pocket sized copies of the Constitution laying around Washington and read the 6th and 8th Amendemnts?

I am seriously troubled by this. I'm absolutely disgusted.

Fear mongering works and always will to the uninformed public. But in my life time we have lost more since 911, has nothing to do with Bush as Congress had to pass it. This turned out to be a big joke"they hate us for our freedoms" , because our own government take them from us
Demand campaign reform and I like the pledge ASF suggested here

It's astonishing that so many of us can agree about this, and so many members of Congress can agree on the exact opposite.

If I wasn't so concerned with where the economy's heading, I'd send each of those 7 senators a campaign donation. This is absolutely ridiculous. You can't assume that a power like this will never be abused. You just can't.

What's worse is that both, BOTH of my state Senators voted for it.

I had to re-read Title ten, subtitle-D several times just to make sure I was reading it right. The House needs to do the right thing and kill this Bill before it can manifest. If they won't, I'm afraid the President's veto won't even stop it if the House follows the Senate's lead.

The amendments would have explicitly stated what is current policy and what is supported by the bill. This quote from your link tells you all you need to know:

Both McCain and Levin, who indicated moments before they would agree to passage of the measure by unanimous consent, voted against it in that roll call vote.
They want this to be policy, they just don't want you to know that they want this to be policy. Which is just about the dirtiest act of our federal government that I can think of in my lifetime.

Again, Herr Jumbo would be sorely tempted to banish every senator voting for this bill to my aforementioned Isle of Blight.

(and yeah, tying this kind of crap-thinking/crap-policy to Bush or Obama as some exclusive causal agent is off-target--holding them accountable for any supportive role they play/played in such matters is not)

Suspend critical thinking field! Go to course heading of reflexive response 101 at full bias!
    Now!'Enter' at will!"

Hopefully over time Paul and Lee will gain more influence. They are some of the only ones I trust at this point. That said, despite his socialism, I find that Sanders is often taking a stance that I would agree with (and that BLOWS MY MIND!)

Just contacted both of my Senators and let them have a piece of my mind. Might not do much, but I still think it needed to be said.

Yeah, isn't that funny? I guess us libertarians have more in common with socialists than we thought.

    Really?

Obama is threatening to veto a bill because it says what Obama is already doing?

While you're at it, could you point me at the cases of American citizens, arrested by military troops, on US soil, who Obama has previously held without trial?
