I suspect had Houston won, then a Houston/Michigan matchup would have been more likely than a Houston/Tech matchup.
I agree though about Michigan - although the argument that Tech hasn't beaten anyone and didn't win their auto-bid so they don't belong absolutely does have merit. Even the most ardent Tech fanatics generally agree they don't belong in the Sugar based on their play this year.

And those guys are idiots. 11 wins. Beat by one team, granted twice. At least we won our damn division.
Boise's schedule-we probably go 11-1 also. Kansas State-same thing, we match their record.
We just lost last and lost bad. If we didn't play in the ACCCG and went 11-1, this isn't even a discussion, we'd have ended up ranked right by Stanford (who also didn't win their division and got blown out at home)

The hotter the heat, the harder the steel, no pressure no diamonds, we compete, we win
We are the next decade of the Washington Redskins
The Bowl Committe should've taken OSU instead of 'Bama
Personally, I think the SEC coaches are SCARED of 'OSU, hence why they picked 'Bama.
Just forget the MNC game and take LSU.
who has tech beat?
they don't belong a whole lot more than wvu, who doesn't really belong. the whole thing is a joke.
2013
The Mayans Were Wrong, Go Nuts
2 Thoughts:
-VT's fans did more to get the team to the BCS than the team did. If the fans didn't have the reputation to travel, fill a stadium, and book hotel rooms, it's probably Boise or Kansas St in the game.
- Southern Miss' victory over Houston cost themselves, as well as every team in their conference $1 Million since Houston would have gotten a BCS berth with a win.
I'm always on board with mocking the douchebags from Virginia Tech. But I'm not sure you can make a great argument for ANY team getting the at-large bids. They all seem roughly the same to me. And no one is crying for poor Arkansas who were the #3 team in the country, what, 18 days ago and whose only sin was being worse than LSU and Alabama.
I think the Big East should have gotten both at large bids since it had 3 conference champions. That seems like the fairest way to do things.
It would also be hysterical if the Sugar Bowl was VT-Louisville and the Fiesta Bowl was Oklahoma State-Cincinatti. TV execs would be jumping out of windows.

I'll say this, as a fan of both Michigan State and the Redskins (and having been a Redskin fan for 40 years), I'd rather watch the MSU - Georgia game than the Redskins - Philly game on Jan. 1st.
I never specified BCS games. It's odd that there are no college games at all (doing my Larry impersonation) on New Years day. When was the last time that happened? It's not like they couldn't have a second tier game at 8:00pm on New Years. Why not? They'll have a fairly captive audience I'd imagine.
And I understand the money bit, and with no other games on that Sunday night, you'd think they could get some good advertising dollars for a bowl game.

I don';t see it as a joke at all.
The conferences determine how they pick their champion. WVU did that by the rules the Big East set out. Fair and legit
The BCS picks 1-2 for the MNC game. LSU was obvious and thanks to ESPN, Alabama got the 2nd spot
At that point, if you qualify in the top 14, its up to the bowls. The bowls are designed to put asses in the seats and bring people to their city in the dead of winter. Based on demand for these tickets and flights, the Sugar Bowl accomplished that goal
The hotter the heat, the harder the steel, no pressure no diamonds, we compete, we win
We are the next decade of the Washington Redskins
The MNC game should also determine who plays (hell, goodness knows it couldn't be WORSE than the BCS).

I mean..what's the appeal of Bourbon street, good food, and good music to draw people in?
It's not like New Orleans is a tourist spot.

What's more is this past World Series was a gem. Maybe the best since 1991.
It's hard for me to really wrap my mind around how popular NFL football is in this country. I'm not saying that because I don't like, but because the scale of its popularity is absolutely awe-inspiring. Nothing in sports comes close to it.
My home town was carved out of swampland.
