So let's say a rookie of the past signs a contract, with 40 mil guaranteed, they don't get a 40 mil signing bonus, they'll get like 20 then, and then the other guaranteed money will come over the duration of their contract. However if they are cut before the duration of their contract expires, all guaranteed money must go to said player that offseason, and it will penalize the teams cap that year.

This is how I understood it at least. Back-loading Manning's contract is something I can't see him being in favor of, nor would it be beneficial to the team if he still came with a high guaranteed $ amt.
Bonuses and signing bonuses are guaranteed.

and yes, we need to stay on track as this isn't a Manning trhead, but an RG3 thread.

Well aside from the fact that signing Manning could impede us from resigning our own guys or signing guys that could actually play and help our team.

The Manning discussion has ceased in this thread, due to some friendly advice given by Jumbo, if you'd like to further discuss the topic feel free to PM me.

PM you? , uh you still talking Peyton Manning up in here? \\Anyway, I would love to have RG3 or C3PO for that matter, just don't start Rex Grossman again in favor of benching the rookie so he can learn, you learn on the field. I think RG would take to it much like Cam has. I really hope the FO can pull off the deal and get this guy. I actually want him more than Luck at this point. PUN intended.

    Mr. Griffin Goes to Washington

Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III heads to Washington Wednesday at the invitation of the president and first lady.

WACO (January 31, 2012)--Heisman Trophy Robert Griffin III heads to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday at the invitation of President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.

On Thursday Griffin will lead a prayer at the National Prayer Breakfast at the Hilton Washington International hotel.

Earlier this month, Griffin decided to pass on his final season of eligibility at Baylor to enter the NFL draft.

On Jan. 16, he flew to Arizona accompanied by his mother and fiancée to begin five weeks of intensive training at a sports performance facility.

The three will fly to Washington Wednesday where they’ll be joined by Griffin’s father who remained in Copperas Cove while his son trains.

From Washington, Griffin III heads to Indianapolis where he will take part in Super Bowl media events.

He hasn’t decided whether to attend the game Sunday, his parents said.

Griffin is projected to be one of the top picks in April's NFL draft.

He and Stanford's Andrew Luck, the Heisman runner-up, are likely to be the first two quarterbacks selected.

Griffin played 41 games during his record-setting career at Baylor, completing 800 of 1,192 passes (67 percent) for 10,366 yards with 78 touchdowns and 17 interceptions, along with 2,254 yards and 33 TDs rushing.

He completed 72 percent of his passes this year for 4,239 yards and 37 TDs.

I thought only signing bonuses were, but not roster bonuses. I understood those were only guaranteed if you were actually on the roster (not released) when the bonus came due.

Not a RGIII athlete, but I think people are underestimating how good and for how many reasons Luck will be the top prospect this year. It's rare that a player is a consensus #1 two years in a row. The talk about Luck being #1 this year and last year was unlike anything I've seen. The "suck for luck" slogan was conceived because of him and his status.

I'm annoyed that your buddy will be able to go from Peyton to Luck. Not fair at all. Add insult to injury that he doesn't even appreciate Luck.
I am also jealous that the Colts will go from Manning to Luck; however I didn't get the impression that he didn't like or appreciate Luck. I got the impression that he thinks RG3 has more potential upside than Luck has. In my discussions with other football fans, there seems to be some debate about RG3. Some view him as a great athlete that plays QB, while others seem him as a great athlete and QB. I believe this is the pool of people my friend falls in. It is not that he wouldn't be thrilled with Andrew Luck; it is the unknown ceiling that RG3 potentially has.

Personally, how ever it plays out, I hope we are in a position to land one of these 2 guys come April. Hail!!!

That's my feeling right there. If the Skins could land either one of them,I'm a happy guy. They're both just so damn talented. We got a few glimpses in to the potential of the Redskins offense this past season,I think either one of these young men could help make it work,(with time maybe),and work very well and with more consistency. And yes,I understand the price the Skins may have to pay to get either one of them. I'm cool with that.

It's all about money. Cleveland will not spend the kind of money it wll take to sign RGlll. Same goes for the Seahawks. I think Griffin will be a Redskin if
we want him. However, Matt Flynn looked good when he has had a chance to play and would cost us a lot less. I think the skins will bring him in for a look see.
Mr. Dan may even purchase two QB (free agent + draft), and fix this problem for a long time. We have the cap space and the money. You can never tell he may
even go after Luck....One thing is for sure we will have a new QB next season.....

You do realize it is extremely cheap to sign rookies now, right? You don't really have a choice to spend a lot or a little?

Whoever drafts him will spend almost the exact same money to sign him.

What worries me is not that Cleveland will sneak in and steal RG3 but Indy will take him instead of Luck.Don't get me wrong Luck would be a nice consolation prize but it is starting to make me a little nervous.I really would rather have RG3 at this point than Luck.
