Default Redskins Team Stores Shutting Down?

Okay, I'm a little dumfounded. I went to Fair Oaks Mall this afternoon, and I saw this white wall where a Redskins Team Store used to be. At first, I thought it was shut down because the season is over. I went next door to buy something at Game Stop, and I asked them why the store was closed. They said it was because their lease was up. Somebody then came in and abruptly fired everybody and shut the place down. WTF?!? I then hear from another nearby merchant that all the team stores were eventually going to shut down except the one at FedEx Field. Does anybody know any other details about this?

It may be an economical decision since online ordering meets more diverse needs. Sort of like how Blockbuster is going under. I don't think I've personally ever bought a jersey at one of the stores. The few times I went they didn't have any large sizes for the jersey I wanted, it was all XL and up, which are like PJs on me they are so big.

What does this have to do with being good or bad at business? You can buy Redskins memorabilia from 100 different places, a dedicated store just doesn't make much sense.

So you see no relation between closing down stores and business?

Especially in a pattern involving SixFlags, Jonny Rockets, Redskins waiting list becoming a joke, attendance dwindling, and multiple failed businesses before the IPO bubble that allowed him to buy the Redskins?

It's probably just because the lease was up. Last I check the Redskins store at my mall was still open, hiring even.

I know at my local mall, lot's of stores have left because the cost of the lease gets too extreme and they can't justify keeping a store open. You can't simply shut down a store, otherwise you break your lease and you're on the hook to pay for it anyway or legal trouble, et. al. So they probably just waited for the lease to run out and then closed it. No use keeping a business open when you can't financially justify it.

The Chick-Fil-A at my local mall closed. It did great business but the cost of the lease was insane so they decided to leave.

In other words, this doesn't say jack**** about Dan being good or bad businessman.

Yeah, I think you nailed it. I live down here in Pantherland. Their only team store has always been just the one at the stadium. I think most teams go this route these days. Gotta be like you said, for financial reasons.

Football stuff is more related to the product on the field. Would you rather Snyder get involved with that again?

Plus, the economy is forcing a lot of businesses to close stores and consolidate and certainly takes it's toll on extravagant spending, such as with football. Same thing happened to the NFL during the depression.

Are you sure you're not just taking this as a chance to grind an axe? Seems like there's hatred coming off in your post over a pretty menial subject. Again I'd say online services better meeting demand and the economy are what are playing a hand in this, much more so than simply "Snyder is bad at business" being the culprit when it's the team record and economy which carry influence in this case. The team was selling more jerseys when Snyder was bringing in high-priced FAs because the fanbase, as much as they complain, eat that stuff up. So would you rather have the old Snyder ways or keep things as they are currently?

The failure of the Redskins stores most likely had to due with the economy and the fact that you can buy NFL gear online and in many other stores. All they really need is the current store at Fedex Field.

We had one at the mall here in Richmond and I, like many others would walk through there and browse around but I never really saw too many people actually purchase anything.

I just said he's bad at business based on pretty much every venture he's had regressing including the Redskins except for the marketing business that he sold for millions right before it went bankrupt. Not sure wher eyou got the rest of the stuff.

Okay, but how do you extrapolate one store closing as being indicative of further proof that he's a bad businessman.

Stores closes all the time, especially in this economy.

Because in the original post it implies he's planning on closing more. If that is true, it is just another example in a pattern. Should we say that Bank of America writing off billions of dollars, cuttin gemployees, and closing branches has nothing to do with business due to the fact it's a bad economy?

But the store closing, as I and others pointed out, is not likely due to Snyder being a bad business man. Try acknowledging those points please, otherwise why even respond to my post? It just makes it seem more like you just want to complain about someone you don't like than think things through. There are things which do show Snyder has had some bad investments, this isn't one of them.

As I and others said, online service is negating the need for a store. It could actually be a wise business decision to close stores. Blockbuster wasn't bad at business, they were phased out by technology (online services), which happens as time goes on. The Redskins have their online store and one at the stadium, so there isn't really the need for stores in every mall.
