It's not sexist, Larry, it's fact. My daughter would like to have another child but with SIL being out of work for 20 months and she making only $13 per hour and his unemployment, they couldn't afford another child. Thank goodness for access to birth control.

And, you all need to read the Republican platform. They want to outlaw abortion for any reason, and I don't care what Mitt says about his view. They want to pass a "personhood" amendment that will outlaw most forms of birth control. Again, limiting women's ability to control their reproduction.

For myself, I had an abortion because I couldn't afford to raise a child at that point in my life. I'm thankful that I had access to a procedure that allowed me to make economic choices for myself.

Mississippi (Judge i think blocked that nonsense) I'm anti abortion, but you can't shutdown all clinics, why does everything always have to devolve into crazytown.

I would love to see where it is winning.

It is easier for my daughter to abort today then when I was a teen.

And your daughters access to birth control is better today than it was in the 70's, 80's, and 90's.

And she still has the right to an abortion, and nobody is changing that. Even if a Republican wanted to, it's not happening.

I wish our political views would evolve past abortion and gun control and focus on the reality.

The biggest threat to your daughter and mine is will she have healthcare, will she have money for retirement, and will she be able to live a long healthy life.

Record Breaking African American Voter Turnout:

Now, where were we? Oh yeah:

30% of African Americans in North Carolina age 18+ have already voted.

That's 440,941 voters - 30% of North Carolina's entire 1,480,769 person African American voting age population counted by the Census Bureau in 2010.

That's not 30% of African American registered voters. That's 30% of all African American adults. Because, for one more week in North Carolina, you can register to vote and actually cast your ballot at the same time, all in one stop. So even if a would-be voter is not registered to vote right now, they can still register and vote.

But that 30% number will go much higher.

Because there's still another week of early voting left to go.

At this time in 2008, half of the African Americans who voted early had already voted. And so if we keep up at the pace we're going, another 440,000 African Americans in North Carolina will have voted by the end of the early voting period, bringing turnout up to about 60% of the North Carolina's total African American adult population.

Plus, then there's Election Day on top of that.

Hubby was already done voting, she & I still talking about the game!!! He's not a patient dude at all, sooo....but outside the gates of the place we vote, NOT ONE Romney sign, but "OBAMA, YA'LL!!" signs were everywhere! (Dems never carry GA, here's hoping!)
OK, I've kinda calmed down now. Great post!!

Chip, have you paid attention to anything in the last 6 years? Please use your own google key to find how states have restricted abortion clinics' being able to stay open due to particular rules of lighting, restroom accessibility, how big rooms are, and other crazy nonsense. In some states, they're down to one clinic, only open sporadically, and when an ultrasound gets ordered *by law*, when you're already paying for a night or two in a hotel because you have to drive so far, then be told you have to come back in two weeks for the results(another hotel stay), and then have to come back again to have your procedure done...and another hotel stay...for women who can't afford to have a child in the first place, THIS IS NUTS.
And pleeeeezzze, don't anyone say adoption is the answer. I'm adopted. I know it can be. But it can also be IMPOSSIBLE for a woman to give up what's grown inside her. Don't know that I could.
Hope I didn't go too far, there.

I'm not. The last couple years have been a constant push by republicans to do everything in their power to get rid of this "non-american" guy in the white house. Between the immigration laws pushed for in Arizona and abroad and the constant poking of the stick of this "birther" non-sense, the Republican party has come across as very anti-minority. And if anybody has noticed this, it's black people.

That's not a good idea to allienate a third of the population which is minority now. Census says now over half of new babies born in this country are not white (first time ever). We're well on our way to being majority-minority in about 30 years now. It's not as loud as 2008 was, but even black people I know that normally don't care about politics are already talking about being registered to vote and supporting Obama again.

    http://www.politicususa.com/turnout-...ly-voting.html

With Turnout up 20%, Democrats Lead Republicans 50%-31% in North Carolina Early Voting

The early voting numbers in North Carolina are trickling in, and they don’t look good for Romney. Democrats lead Republicans 50%-31% in early voting, turnout is up 20% overall, and young voter turnout is up 24%.

The Obama campaign’s attempt to win North Carolina for a second time is built on getting voters who are don’t vote in every election registered and voting early. Since July, Democrats have almost doubled Republicans in new voter registrations, 120,000-68,000. Since 2008, the number of African Americans who have registered to vote in the state has increased by 168,000. So far these efforts are paying off in early voting, as Democrats who didn’t vote in 2010 are outvoting Republicans by a 2 to 1 margin.

African-American voters make up 22% of North Carolina’s electorate, and their early voting turnout is up 23% over 2008. African Americans have already cast 72,000 more ballots in North Carolina than at the same time in 2008. Turnout among young voters is also up 24%, and it is a pretty safe bet that the vast majority of these young and African-American voters aren’t showing up to support Romney.

Overall, 50% of the early votes that have been cast have been by Democrats. Thirty one percent have come from Republicans. Early voting turnout is up 20% over the
same point in 2008, and 1.3 million votes cast (an increase of 277,000 over this point in 2008.)

Maybe people voted early, because of the storm?

Still. Higher turnout than in 08?

That's what a number of sources are saying.

    We'll see.

That's why I was speculating about the storm.

Just fishing around for some explanation as to how an increase in early voting turnout, might not translate into an increase in total turnout.

I am stunned. We were all sure that much of Barack Obama's core demographics (minorities, students, etc.) wouldn't come out to the polls in large numbers. They even did a story on it on the NewsHour about month ago.

North Carolina maybe back in play.
