I don't know if the number is that high anymore. Just from personal experience, it seems that abortion is becoming a non issue. It has no effect on my vote, even though it's one of the only issues on which I agree with the right. A lot of people I know feel the same way.

If Mitt gets to appoint the next two SC justices he will almost certainly appoint pro-lifers. Roe v Wade will be gone without Romney having to do anything directly. Now as far as criminalizing abortion, or a personhood amendment? These things are not just party platform blather, Mitt's second in command and a sizable chunk of the most active conservatives are dead serious about this. Mitt won't champion those things himself, but he ain't going to sacrifice his own ass to block them if it were to come to that. If things get that far along Mitt will elbow others out of the way to reach the front of the bandwagon.

Amazing the number of Republicans who continue to insist that gee, nothing is changing on abortion, false issue, everybody knows nothing is going to change.

    Here's a short Google search.

First hit from the search: NPR: State Legislatures Stay Busy On Abortion Laws

2011 was a banner year for state laws restricting abortion. And 2012 looks like runner-up.

That's the central finding of the midyear report from the Guttmacher Institute, the reproductive policy research group that keeps track of such things.

There were 39 laws restricting abortion enacted in the first half of 2012. While that's less than half the 80 put in place during the first half of last year, the number of laws already on the books for 2012 is higher than any other year before 2011.

Among the popular targets this year are:
    • Restrictions on medication abortions (passed by three states);
    • Banning abortion prior to fetal viability (also passed by three states); and,
    • Limiting coverage of abortion by insurance policies participating in health exchanges that will sell policies under the new health law starting in 2014 (passed by four states).
Haven't looked beyond the first page on that Google search, but it looks to me like every single "hit" on the first page covers the same topic.

Looks, to me, like yeah, abortion is being targeted by legislation. By the Republican Party. Everywhere that they have the ability to do so.

Looks to me like the GOP does a lot more than just "talk about it".

It's much easier to pretend abortion is a non-issue, particularly for a group of men.

I am sure there are, and I admire them for their work and effort. I will exclude the "storm" comment I made so as not to offend anyone and apologize if it offended you. But as far as other issues are concerned....the overall point I was making still stands.

Florida Early Voters Show Up in Huge Numbers Despite Suppression Effort

As the St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church vans pulled up to the C. Blythe Andrews library polling place to let congregants out to vote, a line already snaked out the voting entrance. A table was set up on one end of the libary’s parking lot where volunteers served fried fish and hush puppies. A DJ blared gospel music that could be heard blocks away. It was after-church Sunday, the first and only Sunday of “Souls to the Polls” in most of Florida, and the second day of early voting. Here in Tampa, early voters, and black voters in particular had already made their statement.

Despite setbacks such as Gov. Rick Scott’s HB 1355, which undercut voter registration drives, reinstated harsh felony voting restrictions and his notorious purge program, voters turned out in record numbers this past weekend: over a half-million people cast early votes statewide by Monday morning. In Hillsborough County, 36,702 early votes Saturday and Sunday—roughly 2,500 of those cast at the C. Blythe Andrews site in Tampa’s historically black College Hill neighborhood. As of last night, over 55,000 voted early.

These numbers far outweighed the historic 2008 election here, when less than 17,000 turned out for the first weekend of early voting, 1,248 at Andrews (then called College Hill Library). Back then, those were considered remarkable numbers. This year, they’ve almost doubled that, despite the odds against them.

After dismal voter turnout numbers in 2010, the year Scott was elected, Get Out The Vote advocates re-tooled and put together an aggressive canvassing strategy that made sure people were registered and “knew their status”—making sure their address was updated, and that any felony convictions were cleared up

File this under "**** You Can't Make Up"

    http://thehill.com/homenews/administ...obama-on-sandy

Michael Brown, former President George W. Bush's former FEMA director who was criticized for his slow reaction to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, said on Monday that President Obama may have acted too quickly on Hurricane Sandy this week.

Brown said Obama's Sunday press conference with Federal Emergency Management Agency officials was "premature" because the effect of the storm was not felt until a day later.

"It's premature [when] the brunt of the storm won't happen until later this afternoon," Brown said Monday, according to Denver Westward.

Yay somebody in the GOP decided to drop the silly bit of opposing every single action of Obama as soon as it is taken.
