This Melky Cabrera story gets odder every day. WTF was he thinking?
Idiot.
You played your last game a Giant, Melky. Too bad, you could have made bank and been idolized in the Bay Area.

Melky is probably done for good. He's a complete idiot. Bad enough that he got caught, then he tried the website stunt and gets caught for that too. Is there a bigger idiot in sports?
Bartolo Colon caught 50 games for using testosterone. Basically the same thing Melky did.

Enjoying a 10 day free trial of MLB tv. Can watch Nats and O's games online (for now)![]()
According to ESPN the Dodgers are close to acquiring Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto from the Red Sox. No word what they would give up in return yet.
As a Sox fan this is disheartening. I realize the season was lost weeks ago but I'm shocked they are shipping out Gonzo. I can understand Beckett and Crawford but not Adrian.![]()
I love that the Dodgers are emptying their farm system.

3 games back after largely overachieving all season (their pitching has, at least). Capuano, Billingsly, and Harang are all -0.60+ in ERA this year versus their career. What happens when they fall back to earth? Oh wait..we're starting to see that.

I can take the hit of A-Gon leaving if they can get rid of most of what is left on Beckett and Crawford's contracts. I like Gonzalez, but there is such a stink to this team that a complete new philosophy is needed in the clubhouse. The Dodgers have a deep farm system and I'd really like to pluck a couple of good arms from them.
Gordon Edes said on Sportscenter that one of the Dodgers top pitching prospects would be included in the deal, De La Rosa I believe he said. I don't know anything about him except that he had Tommy John last year and Edes said he topped out at 97 in his first start this year.
Also, James Loney has been scratched from the Dodgers starting lineup tonight so it would appear he would be part of the deal. Ethier's name was also rumored to have been brought up, no confirmation though if he would be included.
I'm fine with losing Beckett and Crawford, they clearly were no longer a fit in Boston. I have a hard time accepting Gonzo though. I mean hindsight is 20-20 but this makes trading Youk even worse IMO. Guess the front office is really sending a message with this move.

Gonzalez has been scratched from the starting lineup as well. Sounds like this deal is going down...

Prospects Ivan De Jesus and Jerry Sands are also said to be included in the deal. Appears Ethier will not be...
Huge ballsy move for the Dodgers. This shows the new ownership will not be shy about spending money. If they can get into the playoffs, they become a very dangerous team. That lineup is AL good: Victorino, Hanley, Kemp, Ethier, Gonzalez.
I know Beckett hasn't been good this year but maybe a chance of scenery and a trip to the NL can help him.
MLB TV is 10 bucks for the rest of the season, until Monday at midnight. Sign up now
So going into September the O's, Nats, and Pirates are all going to be over .500. And as of right now, all are right in the thick of playoff contention. Some (Nats) moreso than others (Pirates), but still. Who the hell had those 3 teams doing this well this season? Almost nobody.

Giants magic number is 13...looks like the NL west is all but wrapped up.
Hoping the Dodgers keep fading...love seeing Magic and co losing 200mil this year.
