Actually that's far from true. Abortion has actually been seen as less acceptable the last decade or so.
A couple of years back a majority of Americans were against it.
I think it has gone back the other way a bit since then, but public opinion on abortion is far from static.
Abortion law is constantly changing as well and will likely continue to do so as technology advances.
Keep in mind that Roe V. Wade allows for a good bit of flexibility in those regards in certain areas.
I don't think Abortions will ever be outlawed in the US all together or completely put back to the states though.

as of Roe v Wade....yes it is at least as clearly defined.
While I'm thrilled for your 9 year old, I do fully inderstand what the law of the land means, and Roe is no more or less open to interpretation than the 2nd Amendment, BOTH are subject to interpretation and just as regulation of the 2nd Amendment is not the same as denial of the 2 Amendment, in just the same way that our freedom of the press is regulated against lible. Yet, the Right embraces this when it comes to abortion but somehow loses sight when it comes to gun control. In just the same way that the Left embraces this with gun control and yet loses sight when it comes to abortion. Both need to wake the heck up!It's amazing how many bright people struggle with something as simple as "It's the law of the land."
My 9-year old could tell me what that sentence means.

Do you feel that your failure to understand a nuanced argument is a virtue?
Can you provide a link to a study?
Laws change all the time because the right/left fight about the issue.
Meanwhile our society has become much more liberal since my birth.
I don't see abortion laws ever changing to the point the woman can't have one by choice and a checkbook...or debit card...or whatever means of $$$
And yet "likely to change" does not in any way shape or form negate the full force ofthe law as it is right now, because (and this is vitally important) EVERY law in the US is subject to being struck down through the judicial or constitutional amendment process. Again, EVERY law is written in pencil.
Just so I am clear.
Overhauling the health care system and requiring people carry health insurance is a grave threat to American society. Socialism even. Government intrusion into our lives on a scale never seen before!
Requiring and invasive medical procedure on women - just good public policy.

I can't think of a particular study, but I've seen polls and articles in places like the Washington Post over the years that have shown that people are much less comfortable with the idea of abortion and more willing to restrict it since the mid-90's or so. That doesn't mean that they want it gone, but I think people have taken a closer look at what exactly abortion entails for everyone involved.

A gallup poll is much less informative than public outcry. It's easy to say in a poll, I am anti abortion.
I would say same sex marriage is much more of a concern today with the public than abortion.
Actions speak. Who is standing on the abortion stump, other than Santorum and making that their base for votes.
Abortion is low on the totem pole of the movement of the people. Occupy wall street has more juice than abortion, and they don't even know what they want.
Just saying, I can't see a change in the abortion laws of my lifetime, Americans have become more liberal, and abortion isn't something the majority care to fight against.
