i recently bought the ford escape hybrid and love every damn minute of it compared to the Saturn Vue v6, but its still not free.

I know the Obama Administration attempted the Drill baby drill before they got punched in the face with the BP spill and has since drawn it back further than it would have been without the incident.
But that pipeline from Canada is nice, and from what i read is going to happen anyway: 80% built with the 20% added at the end to show its just procedural at that point.
and the Dakota/Montana/Texas bakkan/shale oil seems to be gaining momentum?

lets fund (AND THEN) work with them to help the grid.

I really don't know what the excuse is this time. They blamed the Muslims for 9-11 and the gas prices. Bush and Obama have destroyed Iraq-Afghanistan and eliminated Hussein and Bin Laden. Why are gas prices so high this time?

We all knew sooner or later the oil companies would drive up the price to $5 a gallon. I not surprised by it. I just wish it would stay consistant. The constant bullcrap everytime somebody in the middle east farts is getting on my nerves.

My last job I was 2 miles from my house. We recently moved closer to charlotte by about 11 miles and I started a new job in December. I have a 32 mile round trip every day. I drive an 07 Chevy Colorado with a 4 cylinder. My wife has an 11 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder. So we moved closer to our jobs to help with the gas prices. If I have to cut anything, bye-bye certain amounts of cell phone coverage. I don't live or die with my phone like some of you yahoos do. Lived without a cell from 0-30 years old, can live without one now.

Carpooling is not an option for me as nobody at my job lives where I live.

ah spring....the usual changing of the formula to summer blends and fears of a ME flare up...throw in a refinery problem and $5 is gonna be easy(hell Cali is probably right at it now)

it is interesting US consumption has dropped greatly(not that that matters in international markets)
How do ya like spending your tax break on gas?

They have been slowly conditioning us for higher prices. We now accept $3/gallon as normal. Eventually, we will accept $4/gallon and then $5/gallon as normal.

I expect $4/gallon within a month when Spring is official here. I expect $5/gallon after Memorial Day. Hell, there are some places now close to $5/gallon. I think it will spike as high as $6 or $7/gallon in big cities. If Iran shuts down the straits of hormuz or whatever it is or if war breaks out with Iran; then expect unbearable $10/gallon or higher.

    Value of the $

Demand is actually very low compared to a few years ago. Nobdoy is driving around a hummer anymore.

However, the buying power of the dollar has significantly diminished since GW started running big deficits in 2002 and President Obama has continued this going forward.

Its why food prices are so damn high also. Can anyone do groceries for less then 100 dollars a week?

I'm not too worried about it, actually, it is what it is. My cars are (most of them) fairly fuel effecient. Even with a $2 hike in price it might cost me $1200-1500 a year more in fuel. I'll save twice that if I can just stop smoking cigarettes, could save plenty eating out less, and hell, I just switched my car insurance and that alone is going to save me $1200 a year. No complaining here, it is what it is. It's a finite resource and more and more people are using it around the globe everyday and we get it cheaper than almost any other "1st world" country out there. The one thing I know for certain is that Americans waste SO much money on frivolous bull**** pretty much anyone can find a way to absorb the gas increase without a big sweat if they'll just be smart about it.

Edit: Also, it's nothing compared to what airline prices have done recently. I'm going to FL the first week of April and looked into plane tickets.....about $450 a person round trip....even at $4 a gallon the 1600 mile round trip will only cost me $256. When you think about what everything else costs these days that's still an awfully nominal amount to essentially traverse the length of the eastern seaboard.

Ah, the annual, spring/summer gas price gouging by the oil companies. Yay! It's springtime!

And of course, lots more profit to be made. It's obscene really, the way these gas/oil companies get tons of tax breaks, incentives, and allowances and then they make these huge profits. It happens every year, and it's bunkum.

Doesn't it seem like the merest hint of a problem in the Middle East always results in an IMMEDIATE spike in the price of gas. But the price ALWAYS takes longer to go back down... way after the ME trouble goes away.

It sucks. Both our daily commutes are 12 miles round trip, so we're lucky in that regard. But really it stinks because it'll hit a whole range of goods indirectly: groceries, being one.

But thankfully, gas accounts for less than 5% of our household budget.
