Eh , supply doesn't effect costs

$256 per person round trip maybe. It's been a long time since I've seen flights to JAX from here for less than $100 each way.

We (the UK) have not imported any oil supply from Iran for the last 6 months anyway and when we did buy from them it was about 3% of our annual needs. France is about the same. Iran refusing to supply us will have no impact in world oil prices. However your point about energy security stands.

I have two small(ish) cars - a Honda Fit and a Ford Ranger and these prices are killing me. I can;t imagine a full-giant SUV.

I hope everyone who wants war with Iran is ready for the $10/gallon gas that will come with it.

(I'm being somewhat hyperbolic with that number, although it honestly wouldn't surprise me when we're talking about the world being cut off from such a large fraction of total available oil.)

By the way, while ME tensions are certainly a primary force driving oil prices higher right now, I found this line interesting:

“What we’re seeing is pressure and fear from Iran. There’s really not much else to it,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com, a website that tracks gas prices for consumers.
No, of course, there couldn't possibly be anything at all other than our standoff with Iran that's been a significant factor here....

so you think the sanctions will not provoke a response that would have longer term impacts?

I wonder who wants Iran taken on more...the Arabs or the neo cons?

The biggest winner of this entire Iran - USA confrontation...

    China...

At the end of the day, Iran needs someone to buy their crude oil... China comes in with a low ball offer to Iran... With economic pressures on Iran, China more than likely will get crude oil from Iran at a much lower price than the actual market price...

China is already the major customer of Iranian oil - 40% of their oil purchases according to a report I read. Meanwhile major European Countries and the US have been reducing their purchass of Iranian oil over the last few months anyway in anticiaption of problems down the road. Iran stopping supply will not have a major impact in prices in the West.

In teh UK over 60% of the price at the pump is taxation anyway.

I've always understood China to have a favorable deal from the Middle East because they have no military presence there (and the incredible attendant costs associated with that presence). Heck, let them take our place there and see if we can ride their economic slipstream like they've benefitted from ours. BTW: petro is already $4.10 for low grade out here in Cali. Can't imagine how high it will be come summer.

Ok so what is the argument AGAINST the keystone pipeline? I don't get it. It will bring gas prices down. Why doesn't the United States drill off our own shores instead of giving money to Brazil and having them drill off their shores? I don't get it.
