ONE week away from ST games!
“I just wanted to say to the fans … in D.C. and across the nation, they’ve been great for us, cheering us on. At away games they show up in the masses and at home they really made it feel like a home-field advantage. We said this when I was in college, ‘We got a chance to sit at the dinner table and experience success and it was a good meal. But now we want to go back to get dessert.’ We’ll be ready to get dessert next year.”
Robert Griffin’s last words at the press conference.
Which other free agent acquisition do you think was bigger at the time of signing?
Tejada was one of baseball's premier shortstops, young and healthy, and less than 2 years removed from being named AL MVP. Even if the Orioles had signed Pujols or Fielder this summer, or Texeira two years ago, it wouldn't have been as big as when they signed Miggy simply because he was in the prime of his career and was projected by most to be an elite SS for another 5 - 7 years.
Maybe Tejada wasn't the biggest in the history of the team, but its definitely been the biggest of the last 10-15 years.
Maybe biggest in history would be Alomar or Palmeiro?

The enthusiasm of signing the original Fat Albert was tempered by (1) he was already into his 30s and most people believed he would soon be past his prime, and (2) he was a first-rate a-hole and locker room cancer.
I remember thinking at the time: "we'll be lucky to get one good year out of him". Sure enough, that's exactly what he gave us.
Speaking of Belle, he looks REALLY old...

And a weird Luke Scott story: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/20...ays-clubhouse/
Glad he is gone!
Wow, he looks REALLY old for someone still in his 40's.
But yeah, not a free agent signing but I remember a TON of hype behind Glenn Davis going to the O's

Belle was the biggest FA signing in terms of dollars and what he was supposed to bring. Then Tejada. Glenn Davis was actually a trade in which we gave up Pete Harnish, Steve Finley and Curt Shilling. Biggest robbery job of all time. I hate Glenn Davis to this day...and Albert "Joey" Belle.
Redskins 2013 Opponents:
Home- Dallas, NY Giants, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco, Kansas City, San Diego
Away- Dallas, NY Giants, Philadelphia, Green Bay, Minnesota, Atlanta, Denver, Oakland
At least we're not still paying Belle ... like the Mets are with Bobby Bo.
The pitcher the O's just signed to a minor league Josh Banks is a family friend. His parents are excited at the prospect of hopping in the car for a short drive to Camden and seeing Josh pitch. It would be awesome to personally know someone on the O's.
