Just so you know, the weather on the east coast, including NYC, is very iffy today. Don't be surprised to see a rain delay in the Redsox/Yankee game.
Switching allegiance because your actual home city finally got the team it deserved is not being fairweather anymore than staying with your closest team that you've rooted for since childhood is nonsensical. Let's not forget the 100 loss seasons Nationals fans have endured since 2005. Not like there was a bandwagon to jump to, just another perennial losing franchise with one playoff appearance back when Zeppelin's breakup was still big news.
Both fanbases should be happy for themselves and as an area we should be happy that we are finally back in the baseball spotlight that the O's haven't seen in 15 years and the Nationals (Senators) in almost 80 years.
Christ, why do people have to insist on trolling threads attacking people's fanhood. Of all the reasons to stick with or move to a different team, these two teams have pretty much the most "acceptable" reasons.
This isn't an attack on you personally but in general, the tomfoolery that has been going this season.
I'm with Brave and Sticks on this one, and I'll explain and try to avoid being called a troll for it. I grew up in the DC area and never felt any allegiance whatsoever to the Orioles. Bill Simmons actually wrote an article on the subject that I really like, and I think we can all enjoy.

Pay particular attention to #18 and #19, which specifically address the type of situation in the DMV. Now someone like MattFancy, who actually lives in Baltimore, I can understand why he is still an O's fan. But the folks who grew up in PG county, or Rockbille, or Bowie etc...Washington D.C. is your home city, not Baltimore. That's where the disconnect is for me. Washington DC is my city. I didn't root for the Orioles because they weren't Washington's team...I followed specific players growing up. As soon as MY city got a baseball team, I was all in.
Now according to Simmons rules (and yes, I understand they aren't gospel) continuing to root for the Orioles is acceptable, I just can't fathom it personally. Then you add to it the Angelos thing, and hey, it makes for a fun, natural rivalry. I'm impressed by what the O's did this season, but I'm still going to actively root against them, because I also have this thing about being the dominant city in the area. Much like Boston and New York have a rivalry between all their teams over everything, I always want the Washington team to specifically do better than the Baltimore team. I wish Baltimore had basketball and hockey teams so that this could be even more magnified. It's nothing personal, I just want my city to be better. Hope that makes sense.
I'm just tired of this same old damn debate every year. Just root for who you want to and I'll root for who I want to and everyone just STHU about it already. I don't have to explain anything to anyone. I have one rule for fandom. Loyalty. That's all I care about.

I'm not from DC. I'm from Virginia. I'll root for whoever I want
From my POV:
If you have zero allegiance to baseball and you started following the Nats since they came to DC - good for you and I have no issue with who you root for.
If you followed the Orioles since childhood (or if that was your only team you watched) and then jumped ship when the Nats came to town, that's weak. ESPECIALLY if one of your main reasons was due to how Angelos was running things.
I don't see how any fan of one team can all of a sudden jump ship. I'm loyal to the teams that I've followed since childhood. I'm sorry, but I'll NEVER see eye-to-eye with any "ex" O's fan who jumped ship like that.
*How are your feelings towards ex-Skins fans who started cheering for the Ravens for many reasons - one of which is due to how Dan Snyder runs the team here in DC?
root for who you want to...
WE ARE ALL DIE-HARDS...no one who comes on a football board to discuss baseball should have their fanhood questioned

This is dumb. Both teams are playing really well this year. Lets just cheer for the one we like be over this nonsense.
I openly mock all of my Cubs/White Sox fan friends when they get into this ridiculous debate. Let's not be them.
Let's go Os! And good luck to the Nats until we smoke 'em in the world series.
