Need to win tomorrow with Chen and then do what we did all year and win some games in NY.

We WILL NOT win a game if these guys continue to hit like they've been. Jones, Weits, Reynolds and Machado (he gets more of a pass) need to wake up.

Jones looks like he's trying to do too much at the plate. In th e 8th, he just needed to put the ball in play.
Weiters, you just never know with him. Whenever people count him out, he hits. When we expect him to hit, he doesn't.
Reynolds, he is what he is. He's hot or cold and he's not hot right now.

Tough loss but they need to bounce back and take game 2. They have played well all year in Yankee Stadium, but you don't want to have to win 3 in a row up there.

Just got home from a marathon of a standing room only game, my thighs and calves are going to feel it tomorrow. Good thing I had a poncho and I wasn't there to get drunk. I was standing up at the bar, and it closed at 10 pm. I guess the rule is alcohol sales end 4 hours after the start time of the game, even if there is a rain delay. People were not happy.

Tough game and I really question bringing in Johnson in the 9th. I think Buck should've kept Matusz in for Martin and Ibanez and then brought in Ayala for Jeter. Hindsight is 20-20 I guess. However; they had their chance with Hardy starting off with a double in the 8th and they blew it. I'm disappointed with the performance of Jones/Weiters tonight. Hopefully we'll bounce back tomorrow, but I'm scared with Chen on the mound.

Just got home as well. I had the most amazing seats, club level in the owner's box before the game. Was within 10 feet of Dan Duquette. Then behind home plate. Best seats I've ever had, and probably ever will.

Anyway, tough loss. Wasted a couple opportunities. McLouth not even swinging at the ball with runners on 1st and 3rd with one out sucked. Then after the leadoff double by Hardy in the top of the 8th, Jones strikes out and Wieters pops out on the first pitch. Both of them are really pressing, particularly Jones. Take some damn pitches. Then Johnson blows it in the 9th. Fell behind Martin then grooved. And it was hard to tell but umpire seemed to be favoring the Yankees. Was giving Sabathia the outside corner and not us. Hardly the reason we lost though.

Ugh. This one hurts and will continue to hurt tomorrow. Great atmosphere at the park, though. Probably 95% O's fans there.

Well I guess Johnson was due for a stinker sooner or later. Our pitching has been fine so far, but Jones, Weets, and Reynolds are going to have to hit if we're going to have a chance. This is when we need our big guys to step up and so far I've been disappointed. Gotta have this one. Thankfully, the O's are 6-1 when I go to games this year.

The home plate umpire was pretty consistent all night. A couple of the calls CC got for balls just off the plate were becaue he hit the glove. There were only 2 calls I remember being mad at. The first was the pitch to McLouth when he was up with runners on 1st and 3rd. Strike 2 missed by about 6 inches and wasn't thrown right to the glove. The umpire missed that call and even John Smoltz said on the broadcast that bad call changed the whole at bat. The other one was the pitch Weiters struck out on looking. It was low and he had not called that pitch a strike all night. An ace like CC will always get the benefit of the calls, especially when he's throw strikes and hitting the glove.

The O's just have to go out and get them in game 2. I still like the O's chances, but I will be worried if they go down 0-2. They can win 2 out of 3 in NY, but 3 out of 3 might be too tough.

    Shouldn't have brought Johnson in .. a non-save situation.
especially as well as Matusz was throwing,, he can go long if need be,, at that point you have to figure for extra innings.
    An overplayed hand.

    OK, lets get game 2!

I agree R4...there were a couple questionable calls, but overall the ump did fine. I really hope we do what we've done all year after rough games...and that's bounce right back. Chen concerns me, but I was terrified of Saunders on Friday night. As I've said, at a minimum we got 2 playoff games at Camden Yards and at least 4 playoff games! Good stepping stone year, but I hope we keep things rolling!

I disagree. That's the highest leverage situation you KNOW you will see in that game. Do you just leave your best bullpen bullet in the gun in your biggest game of the season?

Well, you want to shoot your bullets, but shoot them when it's proper.
Could have kept squeezing off shots with Matusz in that situation, IMO.
