Man I'm not even an O's fan and even I felt a punch to the gut when Ibanez hit those bombs. Unreal.

Really? As a Nats fan I'd be giddy if he somehow went to the Orioles, that means he would no longer kill us. The guy is a monster. He's gonna be a .300/40 homer/100 RBI guy in the near future, hit .290 with 37 and 86 this year at age 22 on a garbage Marlins team.

Giancarlo Stanton = Mike Stanton (you might have heard of him - no, not the pitcher).

He changed back to Giancarlo (his actual first name) to honor his heritage, I think.

No, Miami should own his rights for another few years.

Just looked up some info on Giancarlo Stanton. He's good but won't be a free agent until 2016.

Na, I was mostly responding to the people who didn't know who he was and were appalled at the notion of giving up four players for him. Of course I didn't read which four, obviously I wouldn't give up any combo of Jones/Weiters/Machado but for a guy like Stanton anyone else is fair game.

Stanton is incredible...but yes it would take a lot to get him. At this point, I feel like we're just starting to stock our organization with talent so I'd rather spend only money (instead of money and players) for talent if we have the choice. I'd roll the dice on Hamilton if we have a chance to get him. It's a lot of money, but it wouldn't really kill your team since you are only adding to an already above average group of players.
"Washington strolled to the NFC championship, outscoring their two playoff opponents by a combined total of 48 points. Their domination was more than impressive, it was historic. The 1991 Redskins boasted the largest average margin of victory among all Super Bowl champions."

Yep. And again, our payroll is only like $81 million. We can definitely afford Hamilton.

Enough talk about next year, let's see our bats wake up tonight.

Saunders is starting. All hands on deck. Win or go home. Let's go O's!

What would be fair for him? This guy is already a superstar, he is 22, under team control for 4 more years and has legitimate MVP potential maybe even as soon as next year. From what it seems, from watching The Franchise, he seems like a good clubhouse guy as well who would fit in seamlessly into ours (which is one of my biggest worries vs a guy like Hamilton).

The fortunate thing is that, given their history, the Marlins would be willing to listen to offers made for this guy. They are talking extension for this guy but we'll see.

All the guys I am suggesting trading, in my opinion, are guys we can replace.

    Davis - Stanton

Hammel - sign Marcum (Hammel is a FA anyway in 2013 and I wouldn't want to touch him and his balky knee; Marcum may have injury issues himself but he has proven success including the AL East over a long period of time and would be our ace)

Johnson - sign Koji or promote Matusz/O'Day

    Avery - easy

It's not that we can't afford Hamilton. It's that I just don't want a guy with intangibles that bad on a team like this. A big reason for our success is we have no me-first guy and this guy is it. Per the Stanton trade idea, we could use the same money spent to get Hamilton to get Stanton and an ace like Marcum. At the same time, we avoid the opportunity cost of having to pay a guy with a shaky history in Hammel and a closer $10M in the future.

We may be getting to a point, though, that we might not have enough spots for all this talent. For example, there are 10 legitimate candidates to be in the rotation next year. A point of concern is that the farm system, as it stands, sucks. You have Bundy, Schoop, Gausman and a whole lot of nothing as all the recent 2nd and 3rd round picks are looking like busts.
