Thread: Why couldn't we get both Manning and RG3??

Award Why couldn't we get both Manning and RG3??

I know there are a lot of discussions/articles about either signing Manning OR trading for the 2nd pick to get RG3. But, why not do both?? Manning is a risk and if risk paid off, he could last 2-3 years. We all know RG3 has the physical goods. Why not build his mental goods about the game during those 2-3 years from one of the best cerebral QBs ever -- Peyton Manning??

If Manning does not work out (i.e. McNabb), at least we have a future with RG3 in the garage, revved up to take the field!

Couldn't we get both on our team?? I know it's giving up a lot to have 2 QBs, but better than back to suare 1 with NO QB!! And we would have given up those draft picks to get RG3 anyway... Rookie pay scale and Manning's TBD contract with our cap room is DOABLE!!

Let's get both! They are not mutually exclusive!!

If you sign Manning you're looking to win big in the near future.

At that point you need to use those high round picks you're losing on RG3 for pieces to put around Manning.

I like it, but why would manning come here knowing we're 2-3 years away from being a contending team first off and then with RGIII on the bench ready to take over just when the team is ready of take a run at a championship? Unless he wants to end his career as a stop gap with no real pressure to win a SB one more time? Then sure!

I hope we don't sign Peyton. I really would like to see us pass so all these media rumors about us every year would finally go away.

Because Manning will have some input. Garuntee you that. He won't sign here if we are trading a bunch of picks to get his replacement.

I wouln not get Manning because I think RGIII will be able to start day 1. Why not spend money on a some WR, Oline CB's etc...
You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try.

outside of football.. Peyton would be so out of place in Miami. He seems to be a bit more of a country boy. He wouldn't blend in there at all.

truth is.. we are his best option because we have a top 10 defense but he has to play Eli twice a year and potentially for a division title.

    Why?!?!

Because it would be absolutely ridiculous.

But hey, why don't we bring in RG3, Manning, and Matt Flynn? And, for insurance, we can bring in Kyle Orton.

We can still use the picks to get RG3. We have a ton of cap space and can supply Manning with weapons in FA, such as pieces he's already familiar with like Reggie Wayne. I'd love to have both Manning and RG3. If we can only have one, I'd rather have RG3.

I thought Peyton already has a house in Miami?

Here's my list of questions and responses to this:

    1. Is it doable financially? Yes. We have the cap space.

    2. Would RG3 accept being a backup? Yes. To quote him, "I'd be honored to hold [Peyton Manning's] clipboard."

    3. Do we need the picks it would cost to move up for RG3 to put pieces around Manning? Yes and no. One of those high picks will be used on a QB anyway (Tannehill, for instance) because the franchise MUST have a viable young QB moving forward in case Manning gets whacked one good time and is done forever.

To my mind, being set for the next 10+ years with a HoFer and the highest upside QB in a long time learning behind him is the perfect scenario. I doubt seriously that it's realistic, though, because you don't want to sink that much salary into a position where only one guy plays.

If I were GM, heck yeah, I'd do it. But I'm not. So I'm just going to try to enjoy this and keep praying that somehow RG3 ends up a 'skin.

GaryGreenMonk, you should edit your post. Gonna get in trouble with the mods.
