    April 24, 2012



    REDSKINS SIGN LB CHRIS WILSON




    ASHBURN, Va. –
    The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agent linebacker Chris Wilson. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.



    Wilson (6-4, 247) entered the NFL as a free agent, originally signing with the Redskins on Jan. 2, 2007, after two seasons with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. In four NFL seasons, he has appeared in 64 career games, all coming in his first tenure in Washington from 2007-10. For his career, coaches have credited Wilson with 51 tackles (37 solo), as well as six sacks and two forced fumbles.



    After four seasons with the Redskins, Wilson signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an unrestricted free agent on Aug. 8, 2011, before being released on Sept. 2. Wilson’s most recent NFL appearance came in 2010 when he played in all 16 games for the Redskins. Coaches credited him with 13 tackles (nine solo) as well as 17 special teams tackles (15 solo).



    Wilson, 29, played collegiately at Northwood (Mich.) University, where he finished his career with 59 total tackles (38 solo), nine sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble. He earned first-team All-GLIAC honors and was named first-team NAIA All-American by the American Football Coaches Association.



    Wilson was born on July 10, 1982. He attended Northern High School in Flint, Mich.

    REDSKINS SIGN LB BRYAN KEHL




    ASHBURN, Va. –
    The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent linebacker Bryan Kehl (pronounced KEEL). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.



    Kehl (6-2, 244) was originally selected by the New York Giants in the fourth round (123rd overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Brigham Young. He has appeared in 59 career games with five starts in four NFL seasons, and recorded 58 tackles, one interception, one sack, two fumbles recovered and a pass defensed, according to STATS, LLC.



    Last season, Kehl appeared in 14 games with one start in his first full season with the St. Louis Rams. In 2010, he played in 14 games with one start for the Rams after being claimed off waivers from the New York Giants on Sept. 15. Kehl spent the first 31 games of his career with the Giants, earning three starts and compiling 28 tackles, one interception, one sack and two fumbles recovered.



    Kehl, 27, played collegiately at BYU where he played 48 games with 26 starts. He amassed 205 tackles (108 solo), seven sacks, 20.5 stops for losses, two forced fumbles and three fumbles recovered. He also recorded three interceptions, including one interception return for touchdown. As a senior in 2007, he started all 13 games at weakside linebacker and served as team captain, eventually being tabbed as an All-Mountain West Conference first team selection as well as earning Academic All-MWC honors.



    Kehl was born on June 16, 1984. He attended Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.

    REDSKINS RE-SIGN ALL-PRO LONDON FLETCHER




    ASHBURN, Va. –
    The Washington Redskins announced today that they have re-signed unrestricted free agent linebacker London Fletcher. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.



    Fletcher, 36, has been a member of the Redskins for the past five seasons, leading the team in tackles each year and appearing in the last three Pro Bowls.



    In 2011, Fletcher led the NFL in tackles with 166 according to NFL GSIS, his highest single-season total since entering the league in 1998. The Redskins coaching staff credited Fletcher with 209 tackles (123 solo) for the season. He matched his career high for tackles awarded by coaches, established as a member of the Buffalo Bills in 2002.



    In addition to leading the league in tackles, Fletcher made his third consecutive Pro Bowl appearance in 2011, was selected to the Associated Press All-Pro Second Team and was honored as the 2012 Athletes in Action Bart Starr Award recipient.



    The 2011 season marked the 13th straight in which Fletcher recorded at least 100 stops, dating back to 1999, in his second season in the NFL. That is the longest active streak among all NFL players. Coaches have credited him with 2,258 tackles for his career.



    Fletcher has also proven to be one of the league’s most durable players. He has not missed a game since entering the league as a college free agent with the St. Louis Rams in 1998. His 224 consecutive games played are tied for first among active players (non-kickers) and are tied for the second-most by an NFL defensive player since 1970. His consecutive starts streak of 179 currently sits 99 games ahead of the second-longest streak by an active linebacker.

    REDSKINS SIGN S TANARD JACKSON



    ASHBURN, Va. –
    The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agent safety Tanard Jackson. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.



    Jackson (6-0, 200) spent his previous five NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being selected in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Syracuse. He has started all 56 regular season games in which he has appeared, and recorded 239 tackles, 10 interceptions, five forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdowns.



    Last season, Jackson started in 10 games and registered 35 tackles, two interceptions, one fumble recovery and three passes defensed, according to NFL GSIS.



    In 2009, Jackson tied for the team lead in interceptions (five) despite missing four games. Coaches credited him with a career-high 102 tackles in 2008, a season in which he started in all 16 regular season games.



    As a rookie, Jackson started in all 16 regular season games as a member of the Buccaneer’s defense that finished second in the NFL in yards allowed per game (278.4) and first in passing yards allowed per game (170.5).



    Jackson played collegiately at Syracuse where he was a second-team All-Big East selection at cornerback as a senior. He appeared in 45 games with 34 starts and totaled 165 tackles, 2.5 sacks, five interceptions and 14 passes defensed. Jackson attended Bullis School in Potomac, Md.

    REDSKINS SIGN S MADIEU WILLIAMS




    ASHBURN, Va. –
    The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent safety Madieu (Muh-DEE-oo) Williams. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.



    Williams (6-1, 203) was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round (56th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft out of Maryland. In eight NFL seasons, he has played in 103 regular season games with 86 starts, and recorded 498 tackles, 12 interceptions, 43 passes defensed, four recovered and forced fumbles and 4.5 sacks.



    Last season, Williams played in 15 games with three starts for the San Francisco 49ers. Prior to joining San Francisco, he played three seasons (2008-10) for the Minnesota Vikings, earning the 2010 Walter Payton Man of the Year award for his service to community, both in the U.S. and overseas. He spent his first four seasons (2004-07) with Cincinnati, earning USA Today All-Joe Team honors in 2006.



    Williams played collegiately at Towson State (Md.) before transferring to Maryland as a walk-on. He started 27 games during his final two seasons with the Terps, earning second team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors in 2003.



    Williams was born on Oct. 18, 1981, in Freetown, Sierra Leone. He attended Duval H.S. in Lanham, Md., where he was a two-year starter at cornerback and an all-county selection.

    REDSKINS RE-SIGN KEDRIC GOLSTON;

    SIGN CB LEIGH TORRENCE




    ASHBURN, Va. –
    The Washington Redskins announced today that they have re-signed unrestricted free agent defensive end Kedric Golston and signed unrestricted free agent cornerback Leigh Torrence. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.



    Golston, 28, returns for his seventh NFL season in 2012, all with the Redskins. Last season, he played in nine games, finishing the season with 29 tackles (15 solo), three quarterback pressures, two tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble.



    Golston (6-4, 310) was originally drafted by the Redskins in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL Draft (196th overall). He has played in 82 regular season games with 44 starts and has compiled 250 career tackles (148 solo), seven sacks, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. In addition, he has contributed on special teams, having blocked a field goal attempt and an extra point attempt during the 2007 season.



    Golston played collegiately at Georgia as part of the team that won the school’s first SEC Championship in 20 years in 2005. Despite battling an elbow injury, as a senior, he recorded 21 tackles (13 solo), 1.5 sacks and 28 quarterback pressures, which ranked second on the team. He was also named the recipient of the 2005 Leon Farmer Strength and Conditioning Award.



    Torrence (5-11, 179) returns to the Redskins for his second stint after spending his previous three NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints. In 25 games for the Redskins from 2006-08 after being signed off waivers during Week 17 of the 2006 season, he compiled 42 tackles, one sack and two passes defensed. He was waived on Nov. 8, 2008, and eventually being claimed off waivers by the Saints on Nov. 10.



    Torrence, 30, has played in 73 regular season games, with one start, in his seven-year career and recorded 94 tackles (68 solo), two interceptions, 11 passes defensed and 3.5 sacks. He has also added 61 special teams tackles.



    Torrence originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford, signing with the Green Bay Packers on April 29, 2005. He was waived by the Packers on Sept. 3, before signing with the Atlanta Falcons a day later. Last season, he played in 13 games for the Saints and registered 17 tackles, one interception, one sack, four passes defensed and eight special teams tackles. Torrence played in 10 games for the Falcons in 2005.



    Torrence played collegiately at Stanford where he was a four-year letterman in football and a two-year letterman in track. Torrence was born on Jan. 4, 1982, and attended Marist H.S. in Atlanta.

    REDSKINS SIGN T JAMES LEE


    ASHBURN, Va. –
    The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent tackle James Lee. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

    Lee (6-4, 305) was originally signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina State on May 1, 2008. He was waived by the Browns on Aug. 30 before being claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 1, 2008. Lee has appeared in 19 games with 10 starts during his career.



    In 2011, Lee appeared in three games with one start for the Buccaneers. He played in 15 games with nine starts in 2010, helping the Buccaneers average 125.1 rushing yards per game, which ranked third in the NFC (eighth in the NFL).



    Lee, 26, played collegiately at South Carolina State where he appeared in 33 games with 31 starts. As a senior, he was named third-team All-American by the Associated Press and was an honorable mention choice for the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America squad.



    Lee was born on Aug. 17, 1985, in Belle Glade, Fla.

    REDSKINS RE-SIGN REX GROSSMAN




    ASHBURN, Va. –
    The Washington Redskins announced today that they have re-signed unrestricted free agent quarterback Rex Grossman. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.



    Grossman returns for his third season with the Redskins and his 10th overall in the NFL. Last season, he set career highs in pass completions (265) and completion percentage (57.9). In 13 starts in 2011, Grossman finished with 3,151 yards, the second highest passing yardage total of his career.



    Prior to a 2009 stint in Houston, Grossman played his first six years with Chicago, which selected him in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. In 2006, Grossman led the Bears to a 13-3 record and their first Super Bowl appearance since 1985. That season, he started all 16 regular season games and completed 262-of-480 passes for 3,193 yards, 23 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He also started all three postseason contests.



    Grossman played collegiately at Florida, where he was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 2002, and finished his career as the all-time leading passer in school and Southeastern Conference history.

    REDSKINS RE-SIGN ADAM CARRIKER, KORY LICHTENSTEIGER




    ASHBURN, Va. –
    The Washington Redskins announced today that they have re-signed unrestricted free agent defensive end Adam Carriker and restricted free agent guard Kory Lichtensteiger. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.



    Carriker, 27, returns for his third season with the Redskins and his sixth overall in the NFL in 2012. He has played in 63 career games, with 57 starts, and registered 188 tackles, nine sacks and three forced fumbles.



    In 2011, Carriker’s 5.5 sacks surpassed the 3.5 sacks he amassed in his first four seasons in the NFL.



    Prior to joining the Redskins in 2010, Carriker played for the St. Louis Rams, who selected him in the first round (13th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft. He played collegiately at Nebraska, where he was an All-Big 12 first team selection following both his junior and senior years.

    Lichtensteiger, 26, played in five games in 2011, starting all five at left guard before being placed on the Reserve/Injured list with a knee injury. Lichtensteiger has appeared in 37 career games with 19 starts in three seasons of NFL service.

    REDSKINS SIGN CB CEDRIC GRIFFIN;

    DAVIS SIGNS FRANCHISE TENDER




    ASHBURN, Va. –
    The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent cornerback Cedric Griffin and tight end Fred Davis signed his franchise tender. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.



    Griffin (6-0, 203) spent his previous six NFL seasons with the Minnesota Vikings after being selected in the second round (48th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Texas. He has played in 80 regular season games, with 70 starts, and recorded 383 tackles, eight interceptions, 14 forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 58 passes defensed.



    Last season, Griffin played in 16 games, with 14 starts, and registered 81 tackles, one interception, three forced fumbles and 11 passes defensed. That followed a 2010 campaign in which he was recognized by his teammates as the Vikings’ Ed Block Courage Award recipient, coming back from a torn ACL suffered during the 2009 NFC Championship Game.



    In 2009, Griffin led the Vikings with a career-high four interceptions while starting all 16 regular season games and two postseason games. He had a career-high 100 tackles in 2008, playing in all 16 regular season games with 15 starts. He also started in his first playoff appearance and had the team’s only postseason interception.



    Griffin was one of two defensive backs to start all 16 games for the Vikings in 2007 and scored his first career touchdown, taking a lateral of a fumble recovery 50 yards against the Dallas Cowboys. As a rookie, he appeared in 14 games, with seven starts, and earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance against the Detroit Lions in Week 14 when he had an interception, forced fumble and fumble recovery.



    Griffin played collegiately at Texas where he was a first-team All-Big 12 selection as a senior and a member of the 2005 Longhorns National Championship team. Griffin attended Oliver Wendell Holmes H.S. in San Antonio.



    Davis, 26, returns after a career season in which he established single-season highs in receptions (59) and receiving yards (796). The 796 yards were the fourth-most in a season by a tight end in Redskins history. During his four-year NFL career, Davis has recorded 131 receptions for 1,648 yards and 12 touchdowns.

    REDSKINS SIGN S BRANDON MERIWEATHER




    ASHBURN, Va. –
    The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent safety Brandon Meriweather. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.



    Meriweather, 28, was originally drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round (24th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Miami (Fla.). In five NFL seasons, he has played in 75 regular season games with 44 starts, and recorded 293 tackles, 12 interceptions, 29 passes defensed, five forced fumbles and two sacks.



    He spent his first four seasons (2007-10) with the Patriots, earning Pro Bowl selections following the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He accounted for 261 tackles (181 solo), 27 passes defensed, all 12 of his career interceptions and both of his career sacks during his tenure with the Patriots. He joined the Chicago Bears in 2011, appearing in 11 games with four starts.



    Meriweather (5-11, 200) played collegiately at Miami (Fla.) from 2002-06. He started 21 games at strong safety, six at free safety, three at cornerback and one at nickel back during his career and twice earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team honors (2005, 2006). He holds the Miami career-record for tackles by a defensive back with 293 tackles, and his 182 career solo tackles broke the school’s all-time record for safeties previously held by Bennie Blades (155).



    Meriweather was born on Jan. 14, 1984, in Apopka, Fla. He attended Apopka H.S., which he led to the Florida Class 6A championship as a senior in 2001.

    REDSKINS SIGN WRs PIERRE GARÇON, JOSHUA MORGAN,

    TEAM’S FIRST UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS OF 2012



    ASHBURN, Va. –
    The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent wide receivers Pierre Garçon and Joshua Morgan. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.



    Garçon, 25, spent his previous four NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts after being selected in the sixth round (205th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Mount Union. He has played in 58 regular season games, with 43 starts, and amassed 188 receptions for 2,519 yards (13.4 avg.) with 16 receiving touchdowns. He has reached the playoffs in three seasons (2008-10) and registered 26 receptions for 363 yards (14.0 avg.) with three receiving touchdowns in four games.



    Last season, Garçon (6-0, 210) started in all 16 games finishing first on the Colts in receiving touchdowns (six) and second on the team in receptions (70) and receiving yards (947). That followed a 2010 campaign where he played and started 14 games and finished second on the team with 784 receiving yards and tied for second in receptions (67) and receiving touchdowns (six).



    In 2009, Garçon’s 251 receiving yards and 21 receptions led the NFL during the postseason. He also amassed 47 receptions for 765 yards (16.3 avg.) with four receiving touchdowns during the regular season. He played in 14 games as a rookie, leading the team in kickoff returns (22) and kickoff return yards (475) and registered four receptions for 23 yards.



    Garçon played collegiately at Norwich (Vt.) before transferring to Mount Union (Ohio), where he led his team to two NCAA Division III National Championships (2005, 2006). He appeared in 51 games during his four-year collegiate career amassing 246 receptions for 4,380 yards, 60 receiving touchdowns and 19 rushes for 176 yards and four rushing touchdowns. Garçon’s 60 touchdown receptions rank second in NCAA Division III history.



    Garçon was born on Aug. 8, 1986, in Carmel, N.Y., and attended John I. Leonard H.S. in Green Acres, Fla.



    Morgan, 26, spent his previous four NFL seasons with the San Francisco 49ers after being selected in the sixth round (174th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech. He has played in 49 games, with 32 starts, and amassed 131 receptions for 1,764 yards (13.5 avg.) with nine receiving touchdowns.



    Last season, Morgan (6-0, 219) started in five games and amassed 15 receptions for 220 yards and one receiving touchdown. In 2010, he played in all 16 games with 10 starts and finished third on the team in receiving yards (698) and fourth in receptions (44) while adding two receiving touchdowns. In 2009, Morgan had a career-high 52 receptions and finished third on the 49ers in receiving yards (527). As a rookie, he played in 12 games with one start and totaled 20 receptions for 319 yards (16.0 avg.) and three receiving touchdowns, all covering 30 yards or more.



    Morgan played collegiately at Virginia Tech, where he finished ranked second in school history with 122 receptions. He appeared in 51 games with 24 starts during his four-year collegiate career amassing 1,817 receiving yards with 16 receiving touchdowns.



    Morgan was born on June 20, 1985, in Washington, D.C., where he attended Howard D. Woodson H.S., earning All-DCIAA honors as a senior.
