Default Will Griffin/Luck (Or Griffin/Newton) be the new Brady/Manning?

For the past at least 7 years, the NFL has made Brady v Manning a reglarly scheduled game. Being the two premier QBs of the time (and with such an intense rivalry), it was a must-watch game.

With two of the highest-rated QBs in recent history coming out in the draft in Griffin and Luck, will the NFL try to turn those two into the "next" Brady v Manning? Or maybe it would be Griffin vs Newton, two similar QBs playing year after year. The NFL is all about ratings and moneymaking, having those QBs play every year would almost certainly bring in lots of both.

Would it matter to any of us if we end up playing the Colts (or Panthers) every year for the next 10-15?

Well we can't play the Colts every year unless it in the Super Bowl lol. But I wouldn't mind playing the Panthers every year if it meant we were both 1st place teams for the forseeable future

I'd be greatful to be part of any epic rivalry. All we have right now is the Pokes. Even the Eagles matchups gave lost a bit of fire lately.

RG3 will make us competitive consistently. The rivalries will come.

Griffin/Newton could, feasibly, be a new-era type Manning/Brady. But it would be an evolved type of quarterback rivalry, with each bringing a dynamic running game along to their passing games.

Rivalries are made in the playoffs. We'll see who we end up playing multiple times in the playoffs

I can certainly see us playing them again in the offseason on national TV.. Otherwise, i don't see how they will match up since they only play once every 4 seasons.. The next time will be in 2014...

I think we are getting a little ahead of ourselves. We should be worried about whether RGIII will be the next Ryan Leaf, or Jamarcus Russell before we start comparing him to Brady or Manning.

I do think that, if Griffin lives up to what we're hoping for, that he'll be a new headliner in the same sense as Brady, Manning, or the rapist in terms of success, or Lewis, Tebow, or *shudder* Romo in terms of likability and marketability.. Record won't matter if you're already the most interesting man in the league.

I'd love this even if just to change the media's perception of us. Yeah, woohoo we're the underdog and all that, but I'd love to get some love instead of being pissed off every time I see a headline or magazine cover.

not a chance in hell. both leaf and russell came with huge red flags regarding their behavior and work ethic. the teams that took them fell in love with their physical performance and perceived "ceiling"

rg3 is a hard worker with his head on straight. he must have blown the skins away in his interview. he has much more manning than leaf in him.

I'll eat my fist if that happens. I'm not saying RG3 is elite. But the man is a genius, and with a work-ethic unlike anything we've ever seen. Those two things alone will give him more NFL success than either Leaf or Russell— both bona fide idiots.

It will be neither. YET. It will take time to develop the campaign, and it can't begin until RG3 starts doing something and turning around our franchise. After that, I think Newton is more likely given he's in the NFC and with similar hype/styles.

I think the Griffin / Luck comparrison has more potential to be like Eli Manning / Rivers...

Forever compared through the draft, and whose success hinges on their organization's ability to build a winning team around them. .

Maybe? Who knows... Hell, we need to see where Newton goes as well. While a promising start. We need to see if he goes Vince Young (unlikely), Michael Vick (more probable), or something even better (Randall Cunningham/Steve Young hybrid?)

I agree with this and I'll add that the Bradford vs. Griffin comparisons will come in play as the rams had the opportunity to draft RG3 and trade Bradford.
