I do have a non playoff question to ask some of you. The NHL created those god-awful conferences for next year, but I've been seeing some articles about how they may not realign next year. Is that because of the potential of the lockout or because the players association didn't have a say in it? Personally, I like that they tried to put us back with out old Patrick Division rivals, but I think the term "conference" sucks and the design of the playoff matchups stink also.
They aren't realigning now because the players union blocked it. I guess I can see not everyone liking the playoff format but one thing it would do would be to ensure that big rivalries are created in every division/conference. Since those teams would likely play each other so much during the season and then in the playoffs every year it would definitely result in more games like you saw yesterday between Pittsburgh and Philly IMHO.

I have no problem with the 1st round, but the 2nd round and beyond was weird. But then again, the Philly-Pitt-Was-NYR-NJ division would be tougher to get out of then the Bos-Mon-Buff-Tor division. So I kind of like the 1-8, 2-7, etc. format.

    Here would be my realignment:

    NYR, NYI, NJ. Pitt, Phi
    Bos, Mon, Tor, Buff, Ott
    Was, Fla, TB, Car, Nash

    Det, CBJ, Minn, Chi, St.L
    Win, Edm, Dall, Col, Cal
    Van, LA, Ana, Pho, SJ

    Easy!!!

^ Dallas with three Canadian teams and Colorado? How does that make any sense?

Why would a #2 and a #8 seed play in the 2nd round? Do they reseed?

Either way, I still think the Sharks knock the Blues out in the first round.

    edit..I guess they do re-seed.

    That's just stupid.

How is that stupid? That's how it should be. The NBA should do the same thing. It shouldn't be a bracket system.

Makes much more sense than the NBA's bracket.

Does anyone watch online? If so, where? I have NHL center ice, but the playoffs are not available. I can't believe there's only one game on TV at 7!

I guess I just feel that top teams shouldn't be rewarded by upsets.

To me, the reward for an upset by the #8 seed should always be a 2nd round matchup with the #4/#5 seed.

it's actually pretty logical that the #1 seed should have the easiest path. it doesn't really matter because it's PLAYOFF HOCKEY WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO and all the games are hard fought >

What doesn't make sense is Chicago not being in that league
