thank you for all of the input!! and i am sorry to have lobbed out the question and then disappeared.... my house turned into a Vomitoreum right after i started this thread

2 of my 3 children were violently ill.... and then it passed on to my wife.

at this point I have to view myself (and my oldest daughter) as ticking timebombs. I am not positive WHEN this is going to happen... just that it is coming soon

One more piece of advice: if you make any changes, it will affect the timeline and cost, usually upward, and before any demo starts, know exactly what you are getting, all plans are completed, all materials are bought or at least ordered etc..

When I had my kitchen done, my neighbors across the street were continually making changes about what they wanted etc. and their kitchen was started and ended way after mine was started and completed.

Check out NKBA.org, it has a free kitchen planner and a search engines for Certified Kitchen Designers in your area. This is the National Kitchen and Bath website and I am a KB contractor who is a member and believes strongly in the association which includes all segments of the industry. The NKBA puts on the Kitchen and Bath Industry show every year, this year is in Chicago and is featured on HGTV. If you have a specific question on design or materials this is an excellent source for consumer and professionals.

Fifty years of deferred maintenance will do that to ya. You will be happy when it's done.

this is where 50 years of deferred maintenance pays off! it is much less painfull ripping out a 1968 pea green stove with out a door, than throwing away a 2004 sub-zero elite zbrx 9000 *
