We're #2 in SI's power rankings? I love the honors but not sure if we deserve a spot ahead of teams who have swept us (Dodgers) or beat us in series (Orioles). I am surprised to see the Phillies at #5 ahead of the Orioles, and Braves below them at #8.

Correct, the complete game no-hitter has occurred 223 times in the modern era. An immaculate inning has only occurred 46 times in MLB history, and I only learned that because when I was looking up Jordan Zimmermann's stats for my earlier post, I learned that he was one of the pitchers to accomplish the feat, last season.

SI is using the fangraphs war rankings this year. Essentially, they are just looking at how many wins the team should have without luck, etc. Not a power rankings in the sense of "which team is hot right now." A power ranking designed to show which teams are playing best despite their records.

    Its interesting.

Read the explanation at the beginning...it's done by FanGraphs using some of their projection metrics. As it alludes to, I guess leading the league in almost every pitching category has some benefit.

H-Rod almost had an immaculate inning though IIRC he had 3 strike outs but on 10 pitches. Hey when he's on he is FILTHY.
I think Stammen had one of these earlier this year.

    • "Ryan Mattheus has plantar fasciitis in his left foot, an injury that could sideline the Nationals reliever as much as two weeks."

    From the Nationals Facebook Page:

OFFICIAL: The Nationals have placed RHP Ryan Mattheus on the 15-Day Disabled List with a plantar fascia strain (left foot) and reinstated RHP Chien-Ming Wang.

If Wang can figure out a routine for warming up as a reliever, he could be one of our best. There are concerns there, his shoulder surgery would normally require a bit more warmup time before his starting games. Maybe he's far from that and is back to a quicker warmup...or maybe Davey will use him specifically when his starter needs yanked between innings 4 and 6.

They joked yesterday that he could start his warm up session in the first inning. They mentioned that his history was a over an hour warm up session for a start.

Yea. Unfortunately Wang needs a lot of foreplay before he's ready to go. Sometimes, he can't get ready at all. Ironically, due to stiffness and not for a lack of it.

Ok, here's one: How non-complete (less then 9 innings) no hitters have been thrown?
