Add all his exploits together, and Harper is doing something no teenager ever has in the major leagues. After his second consecutive three-hit game, Harper is batting .307 with a .943 on-base plus slugging percentage. Over a full season, his OPS would surpass the highest mark by a teenager — Mel Ott’s .921 in 1928 — since at least 1900

“I just feel really good up there,” Harper said. “At the beginning, I usually struggle. Once I get going, it’s scary.

This clip needs to go in the Pwned thread. Instant classic!

    Clown question, bro.

On a different topic: Nats Stadium. I want to get tickets to the Saturday game. What's the best side (or sections) of the stadium to sit in the shade for a 1pm game?

Regarding the 160 innings, while all innings are not equal in terms of pitch count, I think over the course of a season it'll all balance out. The quick 10 or fewer pitch innings will be balanced out by the long 20+ ones. 160 innings sounds good. Last thing we want is to burn Stras out early like Wood/Prior.

It's not unheard of but you don't want to do it with a guy who's routine is as critical as Strasburg's due to the injury. Most pitcher's that throw on extra rest overthrow. This is the last thing you want him doing.

To all those saying the nats will never go to a 6 man rotation because of pitchers routines....
Well -I agree...BUT...The routine is not everything. And not the only option....
There was once a manager who during late summer run did the numbers and decided that the best thing for his team...would be a 4 man rotation.
This manager didnt seem to care about the schedule, or routine, or anything else. He simply did the numbers and went for it.

    The manager was Davey Johnson....

Which - Raises a interesting question. Not one I suggest - but I'll ask it anyway. What if you went to a 4 man rotation to save Stras for a period. He simply skipped a few starts?

You can't just "simply skip starts." I think it's been confirmed now by many posts that pitching is a routine game.

What we have going now is fine. Play Stras every 5 days like normal and once he reaches 160 IP, shut him down. No trying to extend him into September or anything like that. It's just not necessary and not worth it.

What I don't understand is why people think skipping starts in July is somehow helpful. Last I saw, every win counts the same, whether its in July or September. Are you going to start trying to pitch Strasburg ONLY against the "good teams," now or something? I don't get it.

Every team used to have 4 man rotations. I think the Royals did one most recently in the late 80's.

And before that Satchel Paige used to pitch every game. We progress.

Thats my point...Davey Johnson himself 16 years ago said "F the routine -We are going with a 4 man rotation from July to Sept".

The 1st part I agree with - But its not about making the playoffs. Its about if you pitch him IN the playoffs...

And BTW -the article I had was from 1996 on the 4 man rotation -Which is later then the 80's

I personally don't think his risk of injury is that high. Sure it's higher then it is with a normal pitcher, but that doesn't make it high. And if you've got a shot at doing something really special, there's no reason in my mind not to do it. Be extra, extra, extra careful while doing it. But opportunities like this are really rare. And we still have a lot of season to go, so it's possible this point is moot point in 2-3 months. But that doesn't mean you can't think about it. And really, you should.
