If the Nats don't resign LaRoche, they get a 1st round compensatory pick next year (because they made him a $13.5m qualifying offer).
So, I'd like to see them stick with Morse at 1B for all of the reasons that have already been mentioned by others: power, high BA, decent defense. Yes, we lose a bit of Vet leadership. But there was a hell of a lot of growth by this team this past season with their postseason run.
I want to say "Trust In Rizzo" because he's done such an awesome job. I think Morse just brings something intangible to the team. I can understand letting LaRoche OR Morse go. But not both. Even if they feel like Tyler Moore could play everyday 1st.

actually we get a 2nd round pick for LaRoche. but there are rumors of Detweiler, Morse and a 2nd baseman in our minor league system for David Price.

What would A World Without Lawyers be like?
At first blush, that deal seems completely crazy. That would be hugely in our favor.
I'd take it without hesitation of course. It literally wouldn't even take me a second to say yes after they finished uttering that offer.
Don't the Rays have the sweetest LHP in the minors though?
Maybe it's not so crazy they'd deal Price...

On a Span note, he'll talk to you on twitter if you hit him up on there. Way back when the Span to DC rumors first started, I saw that he was born in DC and hit him up on twitter to see what the story was. Sure enough he replied and answered my question. We ended up exchanging a few tweets. He's a really, really cool guy.
And just ftr, as I've said from the start, I want to keep LaRoche and trade Morse. Morse is an excellent hitter but I don't totally get the strength of the infatuation with him. I'm guessing it's the cool nickname (that was jacked from Marshawn Lynch). Money stuff aside, how anyone can think that Morse is a better option at 1B than LaRoche is beyond me.

I think they'll trade Morse to an AL team and re-sign LaRoche personally
