My guess is that they think it's far enough away that we're still flexible with LaRoche and Morse. Regardless, I don't think LaRoche is going to get more than two years from us. Figure it's unlikely they would move Rendon into an everyday role at third and Zim to first in that time frame. Then I believe we've only got a few years of team control left with Morse. I'd imagine he'll be traded by then, or they may let him walk. LaRoche and Morse are probably both short term options at 1B whether or not we plan on moving Zim. The only way I see that changing is if we keep Morse and he completely blows up Prince Fielder or Joey Votto style and makes himself too valuable to lose. I don't think that's likely though.

Why do I still get alerts that Slateman has quoted me in here and theres never anything in here from him?
Greinke just got a monster deal..
Goodness.
That Greinke deal raises the price on what it will take to keep J.Zimm in house. Unless he's giving out a team friendly discount, his deal will be big as well.

What would A World Without Lawyers be like?
It's going to be interesting to see how high the Lerners raise payroll to keep some of the young guys here long term. With the inevitable super Strasburg and Harper contracts plus others J. Zimm Desmond etc. payroll could go into 150 million plus range imo

I think J Zimm will end up being our big casualty. Stras will get the big $ and some team will pay J Zimm like he's a #1(which he is really, but we can't pay three guys to be #1s).

I know we are 3-4 years before any of this really matters but couldn't we realistically pay J.Zimm big $$$ along with Strasburg and Harper? Gonzalez is on a friendly extension and Werth's huge contract ends before Harper is a free agent. I mean Philly has a huge payroll and are paying some of their core guys a ton of money including three #1 pitchers in Halladay,Lee and Hamels.
I'm pretty sure DC is as if not a bigger market than Philly and with the Lerners and the expected success of the team I don't think it's out the real of possibility that everyone stays on the team similar to the Yankees of 90's. This is another why I think the Rizzo isn't going to make another huge free agent splash and do more short term veteran moves like Haren for the next few years eyeing long term extensions for our young core.
I think Desmond is likely the one to bounce. You gotta figure that Zimm, Stras and Harper all have higher priority.
