The Nats though not only broke through, they rose to the top fast as hell. And I'll get you a Zimmerman one.
    Nice. Thanks man,

And I agree, the breakthrough season is awesome. It's where the feeling of winning is freshest and the team is just crushing your expectations in every way.

I truly believe those days are ahead for the Redskins and Wizards too. Maybe not to the same extent as the Nats, they didn't get back to back generational phenoms in the draft like we did with the Nats. But the young talent will bloom.

The innings is a point in Dickey's favor, as is ERA and his fewer walks / 9. But Gio pitched 200 and gives up fewer hits and homers / 9 than Dickey while also getting more Ks / 9.

Also WAR is important, it should definitely be a big factor in any individual award.

(Yes, I believe Mike Trout should be the AL MVP)

I can come to that conclusion without entering any sabremetrics.

Okay...so Short Pump Mall Dick's store sucks...No Nats shirts except white Nationals jerseys for $70.

Plenty of Skins gear, but baseball is officially over at Dick's.

I didn't make it to the Target out here. Will try to get over there on Wednesday.

Because you can observe certain truths about the game without quantifying them. It's these truths that sabremetrics also illuminate. They produce a succinct number you can point to, useful for debates.

    So.

Obviously I believe our Nats will make it to the World Series, but...there is no way I can afford to come home for an NLDS game, NLCS game, AND a World Series game.

I'm thinkin bout heading home for an NLDS game

pitches for a bad team too

I dont care for wins anymore for pitchers, but he would probably have more were it not for the awful Mets bullpen. Dickey also pitched nearly all of this season with a torn abdominal muscle.

Kershaw has probably been the NL's best pitcher this year tho

I know the dates are set for the home game(s) depending on the Nats seed (NLDS Game 3 would be Tuesday if Nats are the #2 seed and play SF, Wednesday if they are the #1 seed and play ATL/STL/LA). However, not sure if the times have been announced yet. If not, don't assume that its necessary going to be a 7 pm game.....might be an afternoon start.

Because of the way MLB organized the divisional series format this year where the higher-seed team starts at home, I'd take a wait-and-see approach for the NLDS, particularly for Game 3. Yes, there is natural excitement in a postseason atmosphere, but if the Nats somehow drop the first two on the road and are facing elimination coming home, I think there would be a bit of deflation going to that game. But that's just me.

Anybody going to the game today?

MLB game will be on Tuesday if we are the 2 seed and Wednesday if we are #1 seed

Kershaw has a great case. I'd still vote for Gio over him, but he's in it.

One thing in Gio's favor is he's had way more pressure. dickey's been pitching two months with nothing to play for. Gio has been a key to a pennant race.

but why? nearly every important metric, except wins and Ks, Kershaw beats Gio? Kershaw beats most NL pitchers this year.

If Kershaw had 20 wins himself, this wouldnt even be a converstaion

I guess, but games in May do not count less than games in September.

idk, I get why people want Gio to win the Cy Young, we are homers and all, but I think Dickey and Kershaw are better candidates. Shoot, im probably alone in thinking JZimm has been our best starting pitcher this year.

I never said I think Gio should win. I think Dickey should win, I'm just saying that may be a factor in voting. Dickey has had no pressure for two months basically. Gio has been gaining crucial victories with his stellar starts.

And J-Zimm had a nice season but he was the third best pitcher on the roster. Gio was lights out and Stras was K-ing 11 per 9 innings before being shut down. I'd say you could've made that argument during his hot streak and I myself did but he cooled off a bit.

Yeah I've been studying all the options for when they could play.

I don't know about deflation...I think they'd come to DC to a pumped up crowd that knows we gotta win. Also, I don't think they will drop the first 2 games.
