    Default the official musicians thread

Couldnt find a similar thread topic so i was interested in whom here plays what... what are your experiences... what equipment you use.... band page links etc..... everything about being a musician

I will be 40 this june. I am a music lover. I started playing drums at age 8. I played in school bands from 4 th grade till hs graduation. I played in various garage bands until i married in my mid 20's. I started playing again about a year ago.

Some of you may remeber my cancer issues about a year ago. It was then i decided to start playing again. It has been an incredible experience reuniting with my lost love
Especially since i still "have it". ( the talent... not the cancer)

My interest in production and recording have grown and become a major part of my new hobby. I also recently purchased a bass and guitar.

I got a squire affinity pbass...
I also got my new pride and joy... a prs soapbar 2 se maple.

Learning the bass is coming easily .... the 6 string not so much....

How about posting your personal equipment pics, reviews etc here and lets start a little musicians community.

I look forward to anyones participation and will post pics of my setup in a day or so when i get back to a puter.....

    ---------- Post added April-20th-2012 at 01:36 AM ----------

Of course after i post this all the threads pop up for me. If it needs to be merged thats kool

Othetwise i will be coming to it seeking production advice etc...

I'm bored, so I guess I'll go first.

I've been playing guitar for coming up on 3 years I think. My band and I are gonna be playing some gigs this summer and hopefully well beyond that. We fall in the blues/classic rock category I'd say. I've posted our stuff on here before, but here's a youtube link to some of our recording we have: http://www.youtube.com/user/MrPistolPete21/videos

As far as my gear goes, I play on a Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro:

Amp is just a Fender Frontman (Its a decent amp, but am looking to upgrade soon):

I also have a Fender Deluxe Player's Stratocaster:

And for my acoustic I went with this Fender CD140SCE Acoustic-Electric:

A buddy of mine has a PRS guitar, not sure which model, but they are fantastic guitars man. It can really handle a variety of genres, and has great tones.

And there are many very famous players that prefer PRS guitars these days.

Ive never played on a line 6 myself. Ive seen good and bad reviews on some models. Its all about figuring out what tones is best for you, and the research what kind of equipment will give that tone.

My cousin has that same Amp. He uses it on Sundays in our church band....

I play the piano and keyboard, but technically I don't know how to play. About 99% of what I play comes from ear. I can't read music and I barely know any chords. However, I have made tons of music beats on FL Studio and Garageband. I plan on putting out a rap mixtape this summer just for fun.

I do want to learn how to play the piano better though. I feel that if I can learn how to play well, it could further enhance my skills.

Gone, but not forgotten... RIP RP

    I love soapbar pickups!

I started playing tenor sax when I was in 5th grade...still play to this day. I have a Yanagisawa...

Played in a few ska/reggae acts.

Started playing guitar in 9th grade - been in bands ever since. Currently, I use:

    Egnater Rebel 30

Best head I've ever owned. Cleans like a Hot Rod Deluxe, Overdrive like a JCM800.

Running that through a Marshall 2x12 with eminence speakers

Play on a custom made strat with a Seymour Duncan invader pickup in the bridge and coil-tap that I don't have any pictures of.

Just self-recorded and released an album with a group I'm in. Listen to and download for free at: http://tinyfightingtrees.bandcamp.com

    Hey Joe,

I've been playing drums since I was around 10. I just turned 45 this past january. Like you, I played in all sorts of garage bands and cover bands over the years. I currently play a set of Roland V-drums. Going on 7 years now, I had a battle with cancer that kept me out of things for nearly a year. Once I was done with all of the chemo, radiation and surgery, I got back with my band. That lasted for another couple years. After that band split up, I started looking around for a new challenge, and got involved with several local community theaters. The V-drums have really been a great tool for these gigs, as the large number of sounds I can play helps me cover a much wider number of instruments than I could with just acoustic drums.

I used to sell guitars/amps at Sam Ash, so I was lucky enough to be able to play around with a bunch of different models. My take on most Line6 amps is this - good for a small combo or practice amp. They have tons of built in digital effects. Keep in mind most Line6 amps are solid-state, so you won't get that tube tone.

Thanks. Now if only I could find the right place for a studio here in N.C. I could finally put it all to good use. The townhouse I currently live in is full of too many rules and lots of old people with free time to enforce them. Damn HOAs.
