"Robert Griffin is our future," Shanahan said. "He's got everything that you need to be a success. That's my guy. In the back of my mind, I know that if things happen, I've got to be as prepared as possible and build the best team that I can."
"You're one or two plays away from being the starter," Shanahan said. "And if I see that value out there on the third day of the draft, I'm going to take that."

Seriously, stfu about the QB controversy already, I didn't think anyone would actually buy into that ESPN Bull****. It is a great pick in my opinion, with how much RG3 will likely be running out of the pocket, he is going to take some hits, you need some insurance.

Look, all last year we were begging for the team to get rid of Grossman and Beck. Now it looks like that is going to be a reality and people are still complaining.
I think it's built in. Redskin fans seem to always need to find something to complain about. So they hitched their wagons to a QB controversy. We just traded the far for the #2 overall pick and the right to draft RG3. There is no controversy. There never was. I don't think Cousins is at the point where he's a starting caliber quarterback yet, anyways. I think he could get there, but he's not a day one starter guy.So why not draft a guy, four a 4th rounder, who can fill in? He fits the WCO quite a bit. He'd run it better than Grossman, in my opinion, given some time.

There were two day one quarterback starters in this draft: Luck and Griffin.

I think guys like Tannehill will develop quicker, and guys like Wilson and Cousins could get there at some point.

Actually they are different, in that we have a 2nd round grade backup we got for a fourth and they got a 6th round grade guy for a 7th rounder. I much like our situation.

And I wasn't ever very keen on Philip Thomas, whichever one it is we got.

Other than that I agree with everything else you posted.

Why do people watch ESPN for anything? I'd assume they only do it if they don't have access to NFL Network. ESPN coverage is blah for everything. I watch NFL, MLB, NBA Networks more than I watch ESPN nowadays.

There is going to be a whole lot of stupid floating around the sports talk shows/sports talk radio scene tomorrow. Should be fun.

That wasn't at all the point I was trying to make, you should probably have figured that out based on the context. My point was, to spell it out: "they're both backup QBs". My comments on Cousins should tell you all you need to know about my feeling on Cousins. I like him. He was good value.

And I wasn't ever very keen on Philip Thomas, whichever one it is we got.
    I didn't say you were.

    Agree with everything you said.

I remember pre-draft that Cousins was ranked as high as the 4th or 5th best QB in the draft. So to be able to get him in the 4th round, IMO is great value. Nothing wrong with taking a value pick in the 4th round. This isn't like we took Cousins in the 2nd or 3rd. Also nothing wrong with developing a QB behind Griffin. We've seen injuries to QBs the last few years that end up biting team's in the ass. So why not be prepared in case something happens? There is no way Cousins starts a game for us unless RG3 gets hurt or just flat out sucks.

Correct. So the question I have for the people ready to use all the kleenex in the house over this pick...

Why wouldn't you want a guy that Shanahan regards as being a decent back up being our future back up?

Because ESPN said its going to create a controversy!!! And because there were soooooooooooo many good players that we could've taken with that 4th round pick!!! Think of the needs KDawg!

I think some people just really hate Mike Shanahan, I really think that's what all of this boils down too, at least from the media perspective. People really just made up their mind about him after the McNabb/Haynesworth fiasco, and they just won't get past it no matter what. At this moment, right now, as I'm typing, I see absolutely nothing wrong with this pick, at all.

    He'll fit in perfectly here.

They admited the Beck mistake by default when they put Rex back in after his illness last year and took it a step further when they re-signed him for this year.
The trade was in hand when they re-upped Rex, Beck has been out of the picture for quite the while.
At least the Cousins pickup allows for an excuse to let Beck go elsewhere and not lose an arm for camp.

The Cousins pick does not make any sense. I understand the possibility of having someone to trade for in the future, or a younger, cheaper back up but our needs outweigh Shanny's love for QBs. I just don't get it. Not this year.

The only people who will create a QB controversy are the fans.

Mike Shanahan can't save fans from a case of teh stupids.
