i know. i just saw the poll that says overwhelming that people believe this is a QB controversy and one of the most one sided places that believe that is DC.
part of this is just buying into the ESPN hype because you don't pay enough attention to the team to know what's going on in the FO.
the other part i'll leave out because it's a different argument that doesn't belong around here, but it's just that people buy into what guys like McNabb too much and believe that griffin will suddenly become jamarcus and kirk cousins will ride in and save the day and somehow it would have been different if we just left RGIII alone and kept rex around forever.

let me tell you exactly what shannahan was thinking:
"kirk cousins is still sitting here? that's too good to pass up"
the same thing bellicheck thought last year about mallet in the 3rd
Mike Shanahan on the building momentum "I tell our players, let your play do your talking. Talk is cheap."
Anyone remember all the teams that wanted to trade for Ramsey? lol...I think the Bears offered a 2nd round pick plus a player for Ramsey and he hadn't even played yet. The Dolphins offered a 1st the following hear, I believe. Then when the Jets lost damn near all their QBs a few years later, they offered the same.
double post.

Yeah, lets not act like the Patriots didn't have plenty of holes on defense they could have addressed instead of drafting Mallet.
Honestly im with you, i think KC will be much better than rex as a player. I think he has starting caliber potential, i just hope that doesnt come to realization while he is here. I stand pat that i would rather have a vet backup that knows defensive tendencies and the speed of the game. I dont want to rookies bouncing ideas off each other with no experience in knowing how it will play out. My argument was based merely on the fact that there was talented starters or rotational players on the board that could contribute this year; phillip blake, joe adams, devon wylie, bobby massie, brandon boykin, ron brooks. My point will be unfounded til we see how these players turn out but i think any one of these would contribute more this year, god forbid something hapening to the franchise RG3.
and they still do, but that's what everyone tells us day in and day out around draft time.
"you have to draft BPA and go for value, because if you reach for need you'll still have need next year"
but when we do it all of the sudden it's chaos and a wasted pick, or the term "luxury pick" with a negative connotation comes out.
make up your mind analysts. which one is it?

If all goes well we can send Cousins to the Jets after their QB situation hits critical mass.

I like the concept of BPA but not in all situations. I accept that Shanahan thought that Cousins may have been the BPA and therefore stuck with his board.
Advantages:
1. Grossman cannot sit on his butt content as #2 - he has to compete and stay sharp. But, I highly doubt that Cousins will supplant Grossman the first year.
Disadvantage:
1. Cousins has no hope of seeing the field in a reserve capacity in year 1.
2. In the best of all worlds he will move up to #2 QB supplanting Grossman and hopefully never see the field.
3. Skins will spend a lot of time developing Cousins and hopefully he will progress towards become capable as a starter. He will want to be a starter at the end of his contract. So after 3 years Skins will have to trade him to obtain any value. With, hopefully, a limited body of work his trade value may be only marginally higher than when he was picked - - say 3rd round. Skins essentially get to rent a backup player.
On the other hand, 2-3 years developing a different 4th round pick and if things work out they have already been on the field and are ready to continue to perform for the team for more years as a starter.
I don't like the pick but it's done.

He's a good value back-up to Robert Griffin that we will have for the next four years. Just like the Patriots do currently, they keep drafting QB's that learn their system, and if Brady ever goes down, they can put them in. Without Brady the Patriots were still able to go 11-5, while the Colts without Manning went 2-14 since they did not train their backups in the same mold that the Patriots do. I see this as following the Patriots game-plan. I also see us drafting another QB next year to replace Grossman on the depth chart.
I get what you are saying about us drafting someone that would be on the field more. But the fact is, a quality backup quarterback is an extremely valuable position. The majority of quarterbacks in this league are not able to start all 16 games in a season. Each game is so important to making the playoffs that a team cannot afford a huge dropoff in production if the #1 guy goes down. Look at what happened to Chicago and Indianapolis this year. Houston didn't have a great option, but they had a good enough backup situation (and got a little lucky that Yates played so well) that they were able to make it to the playoffs.
Todd Collins was a great backup and was able to actually improve our play. While Grossman is a good backup, imo, he's getting older and is only on a one year contract. If Cousins doesn't drop the ball Grossman will clearly not be back next year and Cousins should be a great backup QB. As much as everyone complains about depth everywhere else, I am pretty surprised people do not understand how crucial depth at QB is.
Will over skill.
In a couple years, he will play the last game of the season while RGIII sits and rest for the playoffs. He will look good and then we will trade him for a first to a team desperate for a QB. I envision the Browns. That or he just holds RGIII's jock to his career. I'm not really too worried about all this so long as the team does well.
The Lions sign Kellen Moore and not a peep from any of the talking heads. The wrath would have been upon the Skins if they had made such a move.
any comments from this kid on being a redskin?
