Default How did the others do ? - Rate NFCE/NFL Draft analysis here

I know it is unfair to rate a draft this soon . But it is a long long time until there is real football to watch so here is my take .

Dallas Cowboys - I like the move they made to snatch Claiborne in the first , it was an aggressive move and really fills up a need . Of course I will trash talk about the wonderlic score but in the end I think it has no real impact .

I think they could have done more to sure up the S position but the talent wasn't really there in this draft but Johnson is a major reach where he was selected .

They also could have done more on the interior of the line and I think they have overdrafted the ILB position over the last couple of years but overall a solid draft highlighted by Claiborne .

Philadelphia Eagles I always knew the Eagles loved Cox (insert s******ing here) I can imagine there will be some disturbing half dressed pictures of the newest greatest hope the eagles have drafted but again he is a good pickup for the Eagles and fits their wide 9 and rush first mentality ... Vinny Curry was another good addition to that line . The problem I have is the history of the Eagles with DL prospects is not great .

I like Mitchell Kendricks but again I question if he will ever live up to his potential if the Eagles play on him on the outside . I see him as an outstanding MLB in the 4-3 but not sure he will be as good at OLB given his size and limitations - but still a great pick up

Brandon Boykin has the potential to be a good rotational part of that secondary Kelly was a reach and Foles was drafted too early but I can see them getting a 2nd round pick for him down the line .

McNutt Brown and Washington are going to struggle to make the team but could be decent contributors or wash outs... Overall on paper another outstanding draft from the Eagles but they tend to have outstanding drafts in April but lack lustre in September . Potentially the best draft in the East ..

    New York blue team alpha
There is nothing i like about this team who reside in NY . However unlike each of the other teams who were agressive throughout the draft this 9-7 team seems to have been under the impression they were perfect and needed and fell asleep at the top of the first round .

David Wilson fills a need and is not a bad player ... just not a player to be taken at the back of the first round . But I do think they were locked on at RB and wanted Doug Martin who TB swooped in and took . I also am not impressed with Ruben Randell, a big guy who cannot get separation in collage is likely to translate into a big guy who cannot get separation in the pros .... still a typical Giants pick on the lines of Steve Smith, and Manningham

Jayron Hosley was a solid pick and will fit in well in that secondary and will get his chance to start with the injuries and with Ross flying the coop . The OL depth in McCants Mosley will add youth to an aging unit but they will at some point need to invest some major resources on the offensive line ..

Adrien Robinson boom or bust pick in a draft that was weak for TEs . Markus Kuhn looks like camp fodder but the Giants line is tough to crack . I am disappointed yet again the Giants ignored the LB position again as they need some spark there which has historically been the weak link on a dominating defense .

But it is not a terrible draft, just the least good of the NFCE teams and the Giants do draft well but I am not seeing anyone in this class being the extra spark that improves their 9-7 regular season record so they can defend their crown, but then it would have to be an extra special player to make an impact on a Superbowl winning team ....

Good post up. Dallas landed several solid UDFA Prospects. They landed Ron Leary, G, Memphis, whom some had a 3rd round grade, but slid due to his knee injury. Jerry said he could start Week 1 for us.

As far as Johnson, he was a reach. But the kid was another prospect who slid due to injury. Would've rather see him drafted in the 5th or 6th. But like you said, the talent just wasn't there this year at Free Safety.

We nabbed several solid UDFA, who will likely make the squad.

    Darrell Scott, RB, South Florida
    Lance Dunbar, RB, North Texas
    Cole Beasley, WR, SMU
    Lionel Smith, CB, Texas A&M
    Tyrone Novikoff, OT, Idaho
    Aston Whiteside, DE, Abilene-Christian
    Andrew Szczerba, TE, Penn State
    Troy Woolfork, CB, Michigan
    Jeff Adams, OT, Columbia
    Tim Benford, WR, Tennessee Tech
    Ron Leary, G, Memphis
    Taylor Dever, OT, Notre Dame
    Eddie Whitley, S, Virginia Tech
    Donavon Kemp, WR, UTEP
    Saalim Hakim, WR, Tarleton St
Adrian Hamilton, DE, Prairie View A&M
George Bryant, TE, North Carolina State
    Isaac Madison, CB, Arkansas
    Levy Adcock, OT, Oklahoma State
    QB Nathan Dick, Central Arkansas

I liked the Fletcher Cox pickup by Philly. That dude is going to be nasty.

Overall, I thought the Eagles did the best job. One of the best jobs in the entire draft, actually. The Giants draft was average to me, although I really like the WR they picked up in the 2nd round. The Redskins taking Cousins ws really dumb, IMO. But, overall the Cowboys had the worst draft, at least after the Claiborne pick anyway. All reaches and project players. A kind of draft hat had Jerruh written all over it.

Pete Priscos take at CBS http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/s...nk-the-weekend

    Dallas Cowboys

Best pick: Trading up to land corner Morris Claiborne was a great move for the Cowboys. They landed the best cover player in the draft with a sharp move up to get him.

Questionable move: Not much to quibble with here, other than not addressing the depth issues on the offensive line with any of their picks.

Third-day gem: Fourth-round pick Kyle Wilber has some pass-rush ability and could end up as a special-teams player.

Analysis: It's hard to argue with moving up to get Claiborne, who gives the Cowboys their best cover player in years. They did give up a second-round pick to do it, but it made sense. I like third-round end Tyrone Crawford as well.

    Grade: B+

    New York Giants

Best pick: The Giants had a first-round grade on receiver Reuben Randle and still landed him at the end of the second. That's value.

Questionable move: Taking Jayron Hosley in the third round is risky because he tested positive for marijuana at the combine. That's either a sign of stupidity or a problem.

Third-day gem: Fourth-round tackle Brandon Mosley from Auburn is a nice developmental choice. It might take this former defensive player a year or two to be in the mix, but he's worth a look. He is athletic.

Analysis: The Giants took running back David Wilson in the first round to fill a need. His only knock is fumbling. But he should get carries as a rookie. Randle was good value and Hosely could be a hit if he's past his problems.

    Grade: B

    Washington Redskins

Best pick: Robert Griffin III was their first pick, second overall, but they get props for moving up to make the pick.

Questionable move: Why take quarterback Kirk Cousins in the fourth round after taking Robert Griffin III in the first? That's a luxury pick.

Third-day gem: FAU running back Alfred Morris came in the sixth round. Mike Shanahan once drafted Terrell Davis in the sixth round. Morris is smaller than Davis, but has the same type of cutting ability.

Analysis: Getting Griffin was the right thing to do. They have their franchise passer. But they didn't do much after that. They didn't have a second-round pick, but I also don't like what they did with the rest of their picks.

    Grade: B-

    Philadelphia Eagles

Best pick: Second-round linebacker Mychal Kendricks is a run-and-chase linebacker who will fit in perfectly with the Eagles scheme.

Questionable move: Taking Nick Foles in the third round. The Eagles love to take developmental quarterbacks, but Foles has bad feet. He needs a lot of coaching.

Third-day gem: Some considered fourth-round corner Brandon Boykin a potential first-round pick at one point, but a broken leg hurt his stock. They might have a steal here.

Analysis: The Eagles landed three good defensive players with their first three picks, including top pick Fletcher Cox. They had to improve that side of the ball. After that, they picked up some quality players in the latter rounds. It was a good weekend for the Eagles.

    Grade: B+

    John Czarnecki Foxsports

    Dallas Cowboys
This team blew five fourth-quarter leads last season as Rob Ryan's defense faltered time and again. So owner Jerry Jones made the bold move to trade up with the Rams in order to take LSU's Morris Claiborne, the draft's most complete cornerback. This was a bold move, and Claiborne has no character flaws. ... They waited until the third round for their next pick. Ryan has to love the addition of Boise State defensive end Tyrone Crawford. ... Wake Forest outside linebacker Kyle Wilber also has pass-rush potential and, at worse, is a special-teams star. ... Eastern Washington's Matt Johnson will be given every chance to become a starting safety. The late-round find could be Oklahoma tight end James Hanna, who has a quick first step and possibly give Jason Witten a rest, since Witten isn't getting any younger. Grade: B+

    New York Giants
Picking last in every round is never easy, but the Giants still selected some quality, starting with Virginia Tech running back David Wilson, who gained 990 yards after contact last season, tops in college football. Wilson will make fans forget Brandon Jacobs, who bolted for San Francisco this offseason. ... Jayron Hosley is a slot cornerback from Virginia Tech who had nine interceptions in 2010. He also averaged 12 yards per punt return and is an all-around special teamer. ... Mike Pope, one of the greatest tight end coaches of all time, got another project in Adrien Robinson of Cincinnati, a 6-foot-4, 264-pounder. With Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum nursing knee injuries, Robinson has a shot to make the roster. ... The Giants also drafted a couple of offensive tackles, the best one probably being Matt McCants from UAB. ... LSU receiver Rueben Randle suffered from poor quarterback play in college, but he has size (6-foot-4) and speed to make fans forget Mario Manningham. Grade: B

    Philadelphia Eagles
Coach Andy Reid took a lot of heat last season for naming offensive-line coach Juan Castillo his defensive coordinator. Well, this year Castillo has run out of excuses, because they drafted some tremendous defensive talent. Fletcher Cox can anchor the interior of Philadelphia's wide-nine approach with its pass rushers. Cal linebacker Mychal Kendricks was the second-best middle linebacker in a 4-3 scheme. Kendricks has some injury issues, but is a rock-solid football player. Georgia cornerback Brandon Boykin can handle the slot, while defensive end Vinny Curry had 26 1/2 sacks at Marshall. Curry is a street kid from New Jersey who has turned around his life despite a learning disability. He has tremendous upside. ... Of course, Reid couldn't help himself with the pick of Arizona quarterback Nick Foles, who broke Drew Brees' records at Westlake High in Austin, Texas. Unlike Michael Vick, Foles has feet of cement, but he does have very good arm strength. Grade: B

    Washington Redskins
Coach Mike Shanahan and his coordinating son, Kyle, believe they made a smart pick with Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins in the fourth round, but all they did was unnecessarily put more pressure on their No. 1 pick, Robert Griffin III. Yes, RG3 can handle it, but we all know what the media will do this summer if he has an awful preseason. The Shanahans must be worried about RG3's durability, but it doesn't make much sense to put extra pressure on their anointed No. 1 quarterback. We understand the value in having quarterbacks — former Packers GM Ron Wolf developed it into an art form with Brett Favre on his roster — but this team didn't have the luxury of making this pick. Besides, the Packers were a proven playoff team when Wolf was working his magic. Cousins is smart, but a lot of teams viewed him as a developmental quarterback. And he better know his place. ... SMU guard Josh LeRibeus has the stoutness to be a starter this season while Iowa guard Adam Gettis is scrappy and figures to be a reserve. ... Florida Atlantic's Alfred Morris is a running back who fits the Washington style. ... Two late secondary performers, SMU's Richard Crawford and Iowa's Jordan Bernstine, figure to be battling for one roster spot. Grade: A-

I think all four teams did fairly well. No room for incompetence in the NFC East.

This was the best draft by Dallas in a few seasons.

    Philly had another good draft

NYG went about business in their own succesful way

Washington's will all depend on RG3

I think all the teams did a solid job this year.

Man I can't wait until September.
You have utterly destroyed what was once a proud franchise, Jerry. You suck!

All things considered, imo each team did about the same in the draft. it's going to be a competitive division.

Regardless of my own personal opinions on how the Cowboys managed to do in the draft, to think this draft was all Jerry is off base. The Cowboys went after all high character players with high motors - whether or not that translates into NFL success is another story, but this draft had Garrett written all over it.

Isn't that what the Cowboys did in the 2009 draft?
