At least on TV it seems like he is pretty slow and approaches kicks very cautiously which might give defenders more time to get in position for the block.
That was his issue the first year and he worked on it last year. I think he was faster this past season then the year before. Blocking was the biggest issue. When is the last time a team has 5 blocked FGs in one season? At the most, I would let a team have 2 on the season. Maximum.

6, counting the extra point that was blocked.
8 if you go back to the tampa game at the end of 2010.

It is a mind-boggling number, and should have been the last of MANY straws that should have resulted in Danny Smith's head rolling down th road.

Haha, you just keep finding gems to support your argument. I've been pretty ambivalent toward Smith, but you're convincing me.

In terms of the Gano vs Rackers debate... I don't think we're eying a superbowl this year (though I guess a team should always have that as their short and longterm goals). With that in mind, we're looking at Rackers being 38 or so in 2013. I think Gano is a better long term option. If the competition is close, I'd give it to the young guy. You know, the one who hasn't hit their ceiling yet.

I really like the Goff signing. It's great to have high caliber competition at so many positions. Still, it's going to be hard deciding who to keep on the 53 man roster. The nine most likely: Orakpo, Fletcher, Riley, Kerrigan, Robinson, Goff, Jackson, Alexander, and White. If we go 8 deep, I'm guessing we put White on the practice squad with the hope that nobody nabs him.

I couldn't give less of a **** about a kicker. Just sign anybody who can do it. It's absurd to miss kicks, even if they're blocked. Why the hell can't we sign a competent kicker. Punter is good now, just sign a decent ****ing kicker.

Well, if you make up your mind to want Smith fired within the NEXT TEN MINUTES.. you'll be eligible to win a NEW CAR!

What? That makes no sense whatsoever. That's like getting mad at your kid because someone rear ended their car...

It's not all our line. It's the same way Beck takes more sacks behind the same line Rex played behind. You can't remove Gano from the blocked kicks so easy. That unit has lacked for a long time and it's not just Danny Smiths fault. Talent matters.

Sorry if I'm irrational about a ****ing kicking game. It's such a minor side thought part of the game and should be automatic. We've gone out of our way to sign over priced players, while ignoring the ****ing kicker. You know what? This position, I'm fine with spending too much. Just ****ing handle it. It's the damn kicking game!

I don't know who's fault the kicking game is (I hear ya' Bang, I hear ya'), but I do recall at least a couple times a lineman got pushed back like they were starting the play on their heels. Just awful and embarrassing.

I'm ok with Gano for now. Thought he improved last year (actually had a nice season aside from the blocks) but he's got to perform this year. Has to be solid at least.

Great signings. Always admired Goff's game from afar. Gano needs competition every year. He has to become the kicker that after he kicks potential game winners Rich Eisen and Deion Sanders on the NFL network say " Graham Ga......YES!" lol

    G1 Giants 0/1 = 30–39 0-1 wide right 39 yards
    G2 Arizona 3/4 = 20-29 2-2/30–39 1-2 blocked
    G3 @Dallas 3/4 = 20-29 1-1/30-39 0-1/40-49 1-1/50+ 1-1 blocked
    G4 @StL 1/1 = 30-39 1-1
    G5 Philly 2/2 = 20-29 1-1/50+ 1-1
    G6 @Carolina 2/2 = 30-39 1-1/ 40-49 1-1
    G7 @Buffalo 0/1 = 40-49 0-1 blocked
    G8 San Fran 1/1 = 50+ 1-1
    G9 @Miami 3/5 = 20-29 2-2/40-49 1-2/50+ 0-1 both misses 49 and 50 yards.
    G10 Dallas 1/3 = 40-49 1-2/50+ 0-1 52 yd miss in OT wide right, 49 wide right
    G11 @Sea 1/2 = 20-29 1-2 blocked
    G12 Jets 4/4 = 20-29 1-1/30-39 1-1/ 40-49 2-2
    G13 NE 2/2 = 20-29 2-2
    G14 Giants 3/3 = 20-29 1-1/30-39 1-1/40-49 1-1
    G15 Minnesota 4/4 = 20-29 2-2/40-49 1-1/50+ 1-1
    G16 @Philly 1/2 = 20-29 1-1/30-39 0-1 blocked

So what is the real numbers (I assuming most people don’t hold a disintegrating OL against the kicker)? I remember one last year where the freaking DT came in untouched.

    Gano was 31 for 41 for a FG % of 76% or 30th out of 32 kickers. Of those 10 misses, 5 were blocks and the missed FG’s were from 39, 49, 52, 49, and 50 yards.

Take the blocks out of the equation you get 31 for 36 for an adjusted FG% of 86% which puts him around 10th. BTW most other kickers in that area had 0 or 1 blocked attempts last year. So adding back in the others kickers blocked kicks is not going to shift that position around too much. Either way he is at least average.

So some want Neil Rackers who was 32 for 38 with no blocks last year? I don’t see much of an improvement for a kicker whom is 35 years old. At least not enough to dump a 25 year old with a steady track record of improving year after year.

For the record they are very similar on their kickoff numbers, so no advantage either way. I guess we will find out but I would bet Neil is simply training camp competition and injury protection.

Kickoff numbers will be skewed by the fact that Danny Smith will tell whoever to not go ahead and boot it 9 yards deep, but to try to angle for the corner, so we have a chance to pin them back at the 40.

^^ and no one brings up where the misses are from - everyone acts as if he is missing 30-40 yarders...2 from 49 out, 1 from 50 out and 1 from 52 out - definitely not gimme's

    I'm having a dilemma!!

Who's the better ILBer opposite of Fletcher?

    Perry Riley

    or
    Jonathan Goff ?

I'm presuming that will be the battle for that spot.
I know we also have added rookie Keenan Robinson.
As well as having Bryan Kehl & possibly even Lorenzo Alexander for that position as depth.

But I believe the position battle for the starting spot will be between Riley & newcomer (Giants) Goff.

I love the development of Riley, but I'm not gonna lie....
I think Goff might be the better player and an upgrade at ILBer.

He's also only 26 yrs old.
    Is he healthy?

We might be stacked @LBer gentleman.

    Orakpo & Kerrigan @OLBer
    &
    Fletcher & Goff @ILBer

    Thoughts?
